The growing news that Christians are now being specifically targeted for death and torture as part of the spiraling ring of violence associated with the ongoing Muslim cartoon backlash is somewhat disconcerting.
There is an age old fairness doctrine which operates among the Muslim terror organizations, radical mullahs and a majority of the violent Islamist sects which dictates that after a specified time of unbridled assaults, arson, free-style beheadings, stonings, rock pilings on, looting and outright murder directed against the Danes and the animation industry, or any perceived bugaboo or other stone in the shoe, it's time to begin to act out in a similar fashion against the Christians.
Luckily for the Muslims, it has appeared that nobody of note, especially in america, has jumped to the defense of Christians. all the crazed radicals have seen are acts of supine appeasement. al Gore, the Democratic colossus and bravest of the brave, was recently in Jedda and railed mightily against his country as he described his fantastically inventive view of arab treatment, adding to the view of america as a land of cowards. Bill Clinton, the world's pre-eminent strongman and leading intellect, has been heard calling for a diminution of the freedom of expression out of his fear of provoking the delicate sensibilities of the Muslims, painting america as a land of poltroons. and Kofi annan, the UN's secretary general and the world's premier example of dissociative behavior, has called for restraint and for an end to anime rather than inciting the tender sensibilities of the Muslim world, thus showing the UN to be a broken reed as well.
But as our leadership shies away from any condemnation of the atrocities routinely seen in the Muslim world as a result of the madness of the cartoon reaction, Islam continues to burn people beneath the benevolent smiles of its radical leaders and rubber stamp governments. We are exposed to the daily ignition of European embassies, the sacking of European businesses, the murder of the innocents, the killing of children, the hounding of consular staffs, the smashing of homes and protected domiciles, the indiscriminate looting of US businesses, attacks on US embassies and consulates, the smashing of shop windows, the torching of the cars and the possessions of US citizens abroad, the murders of suspected Christians and other apostates, the burning of the US flag and the flags of our European allies, and the riotous calls for our further persecution and destruction on streets covered with broken glass. The lands of Islam are duplicating Kristallnacht and the violent operations being carried on a daily basis amount to ethnic cleansing.
With the accelerating war against Christianity abroad, who will rise to its defense? Who will use the Churchillian words and phrases to rally all the forces of good to oppose this evil which is sweeping across the globe, laying waste to the embassies, the homes and the lives of the innocent who cross its path? Who will rise in the Senate and stir the country as Winston Churchill rallied England in the darkest days of World War II, when the German Panzers looked across the water and viewed Dover through their field glasses, while their bombers flew toward London and their barges gathered for invasion? Who will take the podium in the House and kindle another great fire under america and awaken us to the danger threatening us from the East? 9/11 failed to awaken the Democrats for a period longer than a season of polling data. Iran has failed to jolt the Democrats with the greater threat of nuclear annihilation.
Will the wholesale murder of fellow Christians stir the sleeping liberals to action? Sadly, I fear not, for they do not want to be awakened. america's Democrats want only to be returned to power so they can go back to a blissful and dreamy slumber, casting only a dreamy eye to the polls, from which cometh their strength. They will drape a black cloth over their alarm clock, hiding the hands showing the late hour of five minutes before midnight. They will take the phone off the hook, in case a far away threatened ally might call, hollering for help and disturbing their sleep. They will disarm their doorbell should a frightened neighbor attempt to rouse them because their home is besieged by the violent forces of terror in the darkness of night. They will bring in their dogs in case their barking might rouse them to a lurking prowler on their property. and they will sleep soundly until the heat and the flames of their own immolation drive them outside in muddled confusion to face the horrors from which they have tried so hard to hide.
What will it take to awaken the liberals and to knock the scales from their eyes? What will it take to convince liberals that a clear and present danger exists?
The overt signs of america's decline are ever more evident to militant Islam and the world at large the longer our elected leaders remain silent in the face of the growing attacks on Christianity at home and, especially, abroad. Our silence, our acquiescence, our appeasement and our surrender to the forces of terror, violence and the mere threats of all three have already impacted our free expression. Few newspapers in the United States of america — the home of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt - from college campuses to big city presses, have had the gumption and the will to exercise free expression and join Denmark, little Denmark, in a show of support for their bravery. Our big, strutting, preening, rough hewn, tough talking, bigger than life, world renowned politicians in the mightiest country on earth have already been cowed into submission before a torch bearing mob of knife wielding cutthroats over the mere use of cartoons. What will they do in the face of a greater threat?
We have already thrown the Danes, our foreign businesses, and our cartoons to the wolves. Can we expect the denomination representing the overwhelming majority of our citizenry to fare any better? Who will answer for them?
It's high noon. The killers are in town looking for us. We need a sheriff. Who will answer?
