The anti-war crowd, Democrats, progressives, aCLU

Why won't the left fight terror?

I'm having a rather hard time trying to figure out why the american left in all of its iterations — the main stream press, the television news arms, the Democratic Party, the anti-war crowd, the aCLU, blogs like the DailyKos, the net marchers, the Jesse Jackson and the al Sharpton wings of the frightful daily racial backlash, the droning pontificators, and those who hover around Honest John Murtha for their daily dose of military hatred — simply will not fight the growing menace of international terror.

I mean, there have been a growing number of atrocities over the years committed against the West, Christians, and, gasp, americans for even the densest and the most doltish to see.

Look, even that supine listless feckless and absolutely terrified President Jimmy Carter, who recently stated that he was proud that he had never used a bomb or a missile in our own defense, and never raised a starched handerkerchief, a fly swatter, a knobkerrie, a cricket bat or even allowed a Piper Cub armed with glass seltzer bottles to fly against any form of threat poised to strike america. and boy, it shows today.

Luckily for the rescue of Mr. Carter's nearly rancid bacon, if not his entire greasy paper bag of indentured peanuts, Mr. Ronald Reagan's inaugural was followed by a few minutes of silence and the prompt release of our hostages in Tehran by a somewhat worried ayatollah Khomeini.

Still, Mr. Carter was set upon by a loose association of Iranian brigands, despite the near fatal fetal position he offered the world from the Oval Office floor. and with this failure to act, Death to america became a favorite war cry of international terror, and was featured on every media scanned building in Tehran, and on numerous Iranian walkways.

Then President Reagan suffered his losses when the Marine Barracks was blown up and Marines were killed by a berserker in a truck filled with explosives. and questions were raised about a fighting a war against theocrats with a kamikaze outlook and did we have the will.

Following the election of President Clinton, a noted liberal and darling of the progressive establishment, his first concern for the military, aside from its immediate reduction, near elimination, and the purchase of horses to replace tanks, was the integration of homosexuals into its ranks.

Yet with this puffed out snarling bloviating warlord at the helm, whose main concerns lay in avoiding any foreign risk save the bombing of worthless targets and the application of US might where it didn't matter a blinking whit, the terrorists still struck america, in a growing crescendo of attack, at the World Trade Center, Khobar Towers, the USS Cole, and at embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.

and the terrorists, even though they knew that any US response would be miniscule and spotty, still struck, killing americans, leaving Bill Clinton to lash out at an aspirin factory and a training ground, the latter tipped off, we now know, by a senior Clinton official, who told the Pakistanis in advance of the raid, allowing anyone of note to escape the puny attack.

Finally, with 9/11 and the public beheadings and the televised slaughter of the innocents by the Islamist cutthroats, we still have a press, whose scurrilous members like aP, Reuters and the New York Times, who willing print and distribute totally manufactured fauxtrographs designed to cast democratic Israel in the worst of lights while showing Hezbollah - the area's true mass murderers of the innocent - as the victims, with Mickey, Minnie, wedding dresses, and the walking dead featured as manufactured evidence of Israel's perfidy on a field of Hezbollah's rectitude, social, and athletic accomplishments.

and we have our leading leftist and progressive politicians, like John Kerry, who favor the successful UN approach to the terror war — talk, dither, reproach ourselves and our allies, backpeddle, offer either immediate retreat or a phased retreat, then waffle, while coddling our enemies.

Yet the innocents, used as shields by the killers in Lebanon, the Daniel Pearls, the people on Flight 93, the victims in the Twin Towers - whose cries of anguish on 911 tapes can move you to tears - our soldiers who died in the Pentagon, our troops in the field, our pilots, our Border Patrolmen who trade automatic weapons fire with narco-pirates and sometimes fall, and the cops and firefighters who died rushing to save our brothers and sisters burning to death above them in the brand new ovens of the latest Holocaust — none of these can move our liberals to fight the real enemy.

Why not?

are they afraid of getting their hair mussed? Will they have to forsake some gasoline or a bit of partying? Will the fancy clothes and the high life be curtailed? Will we all suffer a bloody nose, a few broken bones and have a few of their homes burned to the ground? Will their autos be smashed to pieces by a missile or two? Will there be an open ended cost? Will the Hollywood good life in some way be curtailed? Will John Murtha and his boyos, like Fighting Ned Lament, have to close a home or two until the whole thing gets sorted out? are they afraid to fight on the landing grounds, in the streets, and in the hills? Is the idea of going at somebody tooth and nail until you kill the other guy abhorrent to some? You know, we may have to. We may all yet suffer in this war.

Maybe the left is ready to cut a deal with the Islamists and terror. Perhaps they're ready to live on their knees like the old man in Catch-22.

Sadly, however, with the boyos we're at war with, there's no deal, no quarter, and the victor is the one who survives the brawl, after chucking all of our morals and dainty concerns right out the window.

So I guess I still don't see why the liberals won't fight, those awful terrorists have struck their two most sainted Presidents despite their giddy sparkling pacifist credentials.
