There was that old saw about the capitalists selling the rope to the communists which they'd use to hang us with.
In Lebanon, thanks to the far sighted genius of that totally empty fraud in a new suit, Kofi annan, and his thankless highjinks, the UN is allowing skeins of similar cordage to pile up for Hezbollah to strangle Israel with.
as Mr. annan wanders listlessly in the thickets of the Near East issuing key pronouncements about what UNIFIL 2 won't do, like disarm Hezbollah, slow their enormous re-supply efforts from Syria, or toss out the Iranian bounders, who must comprise a considerable percentage of the local border population, that poor quailing man is setting the stage for the next garroting of the Jewish State by the forces of terror -- of which Mr. annan either remains totally oblivious or a willing dupe.
Yep, it looks like UN Resolution 1701 will be as toothless as a Jimmy Carter smile evinced when reading a response garnered from the ayatollah Khomeini concerning Mr. Peanut's last entreaty concerning the poor captives purloined from the US Embassy in Tehran. Or, perhaps, when Mr. annan's past cowboy record is closely examined, or less so.
Nope, Mr. annan has always been in there pitching, in the fading innings, for the boyos from terror, and has gone out of his way to step all over the Security Council and the US to lob those perfect soft balls high and a bit outside for the long ball hitters like Mr. Saddam Hussein and the Boys from Beirut.
as Mr. Jed Babbin point out in his article, "On the Road again" in The american Spectator, Kofi came into the big game late, in February of 1998.
With the UN ahead in the top of the 9th inning, Mr. annan took the mound against Mr. Hussein. Rather than throw overhand, as was expected, he began tossing underhand, softly, with signals warning Mr. Hussein where to expect the pitches. and sure enough, to the astonishment of all in attendance, Mr. Hussein hit a home run, driving the UN inspectors from the field, carrying the day, to the chagrin of all except Kofi, whose pitching allowed Big Saddam to leave the field with his head held high in victory over the cursed inspectors and their dreaded manager -- Richard Butler.
around Israel, suffering from a liberal cabinet afraid of fighting with the gloves off, the lackluster UN response is aiding Hezbollah's resurgence and is demonstrating the West's altogether tepid attitude toward terror in general, to the horror of the IDF.
In fact, the longer the weak, wobbly and ill led UN forces remain, the stronger Hezbollah and their Iranian masters will become in the region. The UN is merely providing an effective shield preventing Israel from defending herself during the period the foreign troops are in place.
and Mr. annan's shuttle give-away program, where he may at any time choose to thwart the UN's pettifogging attempts to reign in Iran's nuclear capabilities by cutting a side deal with the atomic mullahs and their front man, Mr. ahmadinejad, may mirror the base faintheartedness shown in his backdowns in the fields of Hezbollah disarmament and supply.
In essence, Mr. annan and his UN farceurs have become the doormen at the front with the snappy uniforms, caps, boots, plumed hats, fancy weapons, and the hearty hellos to all who pass their rigid inspections, while they leave the back doors and windows totally unguarded, allowing the terrorists to have their way -- unimpeded by any forthright action whatsoever. So blatant is this activity that it must be a coordinated plan.
Meanwhile, in america, where the snoring among the leading leftists, who pin up pictures of an outr Mr. annan much as other generations used Betty Grable, has reached ridiculous levels, Mr. Rob Reiner, the son of a really funny man and called the Meathead for many reasons including his mental wherewithal, has had a praiseworthy tantrum over Mr. Mel Gibson's inchoate anti-Semitic slurring.
and like so many of our close friends on the left, Senor Reiner has forgotten to reserve some of his ready reserve of acidic vitriol for the real anti-Semites who walk among us like Hezbollah, Hamas, the theocrats in Iran, and their all too willing tools in Syria, who actually plot the murders of Semites.
But like his fellow California progressives, it's far better to single out one drunken transgressor for opprobrium than call out an entire street gang full of thugs for their perfidies and violence, which might be dangerous. Mr. Gibson, after all, won't cut your head off on TV in a news clip sandwiched between reruns of all in the Family and The Jefferson's -- the Hezbos just might enjoy doing so.
So Kofi annan is using the UN's rope to strangle Israel still further, by allowing the forces of evil time to heal, while he's on another excellent adventure through the strife torn area, paying no mind at all to the survival of the Israeli State, something the UN recognized, lo, some long years ago, while he blandly genuflects before the forces of terror.
But, easy come, easy go.
and in Kof's nearly empty head, what ever happens in Lebanon, Syria, and Iran stays there, just like Las Vegas.
Come to think of it, Las Vegas might be a pretty good place to build the new UN, no matter what Chuck Schumer writes about the old place. I bet Kof's real pals would love the bright lights and the tons of fun to be had in america's fastest growing and most open city.
and Kofi? What a place to retire, to entertain, and to be seen around the many back doors in town.
