Iran, Syria, high value targets

Time for Major Kong to go downtown

It's time to discuss our plans for an attack on Iran.

a lot of news and views have been swirling around the Vietnam “quagmire's” 1968 Tet offensive, where the Viet Cong were totally decimated as a fighting force, losing some 50,000 dead during Vo Nguyen Giap's all out offensive in the South.

However, with the virtual elimination of the Viet Cong's popular infrastructure in South Vietnam as a result of the allied forces' success – Giap was forced to turn to the heavy units, the mechanized and armored forces, including their vulnerable trains, which General Westmoreland and the South Vietnamese were actually equipped to fight.

Sadly, concomitant with the unquestioned countrywide victory over the VC, the liberal US press, increasingly anti-administration, decided it was time to join the burgeoning anti-war crowd. and Walter Cronkite's televised surrender speech marked both the high water mark and the precipice over which Lyndon Johnson's administration committed their final act of public seppuku.

North Vietnam's Easter Offensive in 1973 provided the final incontrovertible evidence of the North's change in tactics, however the american will to fight had decamped along with the US troops, leaving only a few military advisors, the US air Force, and a weary ambassador to blunt the armored attack - an incursion which had more of the earmarks of Georgi Zhukov than General Giap.

The final fall of Vietnam in 1975, when the T-54 tanks draped in the flags of the North smashed through the gates of the US Embassy, which brought elation to the leaders in Hanoi, guffaws to the Democrats in Washington, and laughs to the former Winter Soldiers, indicated how far the war had transmogrified from the pajama clad guerilla, armed with stolen small arms, skulking in the darkness, manufacturing mines from unexploded bombs, trying to lure americans to their deaths.

The conflict had moved from targets without value to a target rich environment.

In hindsight, the unnamed jungle trails and hills were worthless save that they were fought over, used to create casualties on both sides in a war of attrition, and then abandoned.

But once targets of sufficient value and in sufficient numbers appeared on the battlefield in locations to enable our Cold War Soviet adversary designed weapons and methods to be utilized to the fullest, we were already gone.

The decisive defeat of the Vietcong led directly to the conventional war which Generals Westmoreland and Creighton abrams were prepared – by dint of training, war college, WWII, airborne and armored ethic, Cold War creed, steely determination, systems – to fight. and for General Giap's sake and reputation, both had departed the battlefield for home, one to fade away and one to die prematurely.

Today, many of the same paradigms found at the end of that conflict in Vietnam hold true with Syria and especially with Iran today.

The war in Iraq, the fear of Israel, and the threat of direct attack against Iran have caused the mad mullahs and their volatile front man, President ahmadinejad, to begin a massive conventional arms build up – a large army and growing navy, with many associated and heavily armed popular forces, as well as a growing and sophisticated rocket force, of tactical, theater and intercontinental power – and a growing nuclear weapons program. all elements which are expensive, difficult to completely hide, and deeply dependent on fragile command and control systems. and if these expensive elements are threatened with destruction, Iran's reaction will result in determined and deadly defensive warfare and strong regional and localized counterattacks.

The same will hold true for Syria on a smaller, less prolonged, and with a far less deadly outcome for all combatants.

In either case, these two countries, but especially in Iran, there exist clear and easily discernible types of targets for which the United State military has trained to destroy since the late 1950s – attacking the Soviet Union, with her immense conventional forces, while understanding that Mutual assured Destruction (MaD) will prevent the nuclear free for all that might result.

against Iran, where MaD cannot be included in the equation due the fervid messianic death wish which accompanies the leadership and their utter lack of fear in using nuclear weapons once they have acquired them, time is of the essence in confronting this growing danger by destroying their nuclear infrastructure, their conventional forces, and their means of production.

It can be clearly seen that the Iranian fears of attack have caused them to embark on a massive conventional arms build-up, for which our air force, carrier battle groups, submarine forces, aegis systems, Rivet Joint aircraft, TDRSS satellite systems, aWaCS, and the veritable plethora of combat systems, from a-10s to Wild Weasels, have been specifically designed to go toe to toe with.

and the 52-H Buff, or BUMF, will follow the B-2 and the B-2 into hostile airspace, once the Prowlers, Growlers and Weasels have cleared the way. and every pilot will be doing his best Major Kong imitation, sans cowboy hat, of course, but with the same deadly dedication employed to deliver their payload directly on the target at hand.

Yet, just as George Santayana has perceptively indicated, history is doomed to repeat itself again.

Here we are, facing an increasingly mad theocratic and suicidal regime, which is openly desirous of self-immolation, arming itself with nuclear weapons for a Muslim holy armageddon – whose leaders have already prophesied the destruction of Israel and america - after having finally made itself highly vulnerable to conventional attack by the high value production of its own military industrial complex.

We are capable of defeating this growing plutonium hydra before it becomes too late on the old countdown to nuclear midnight, but time is running out.

Yet we will be prevented from saving our planet, Europe, and our country from the coming nuclear holocaust because our progressive and quailing Democratic Party will hesitate to use our overwhelming but fading military power for the survival of our nation, our people, our heritage, and will only continue to squander it where it doesn't matter a tinkers damn, in the world's dust bowls, without any strategic purpose.

Every additional hour which we allow the mullahs access to uranium and plutonium is one step closer to our final demise as a nation state.

Unfortunately, Chuck Schumer, Carl Levin, and Nancy Pelosi, ruling members of the left-liberal No-Nothing Party and of our country for the next two-year cycle, fail to recognize that a nuclear first strike, unlike 9/11, has far deadlier and longer lasting repercussions.

a preventive war, when laid on the balance of our personal survival, the virtual destruction of our economy, to say nothing of our way of life, would be highly appropriate and far less costly than a nuclear exchange with the suicidal mullahs currently cutting a Persian rug in Tehran.

It's time to send Major Kong downtown.
