Van hauve family deportation

By Randy Hillier

Saturday, January 21, 2006

On Thursday January 12, the OLa provided asylum to the Van hauve family of Navan, Ontario Since that date the family have been provided for with food, shelter and clothing, and kept safe from Immigration Canada's appetite for injustice.

Prior to January 12, Immigration Canada stripped the Van hauve family of their respect, dignity and freedoms in an effort to force and coerce the Van hauves' to accept the departments unjust enforcement and deportation order.

The Van hauve's were finger printed, photographed and held in custody, as the department removed all identity documents and threatened to seize bank accounts. They were then informed that they were allowed to collect one suitcase each of their belongings for their return to Belgium. all other assets were to be left behind including all home furnishings, clothing, cars, farm animals and pets, and personal property legally obtained during their eight productive years farming in Canada.

Michel's business and contracts were of no concern to immigration Canada, nor the loss of business to his many customers.

The Van hauve family tragedy illustrates the absolute and prompt need for immediate political, bureaucratic and judicial reform if Canadians wish to see injustice prevented. These systems and institutions have become such an entangled mass of red-tape, complex and confusing legal terms and phrases that an ordinary person cannot be expected to navigate the ocean of contradictions and obstacles.

For over one year, the Van hauves awaited both Belgian and Canadian authorities to request and provide the correct documentation that each possessed or required from one another. Many requests and attempts could neither convey the correct message nor correctly fulfill the obligations. all attempts to expedite the process were met with continual failure. The Canadian bureaucracy still confounds the reasonable mind with their contradictions of exclusion orders, deportation orders and extensions of time for documentation. The Canadian political system further compounds the family's problems and highlights the tragedy. The immigration Minister refuses to intercede and suggests he cannot manage his department while an election is under way. However, the bureaucracy can make decisions without political oversight. The zookeeper is out to lunch, while the monkeys are running the zoo.

While the square wheels of bureaucracy are planted firmly in the mire and ruts of time, the meter of user, application and legal fees mount profusely and exponentially. It is clear the Van hauves will be ruined financially and indebted forever if they remain in Canada or face the Belgian prospect of welfare and social assistance. The option of living a productive and prosperous life in Canada diminishes with every new obstacle and need for legal intervention. after three weeks of retaining an immigration lawyer the legal fees now stand at over $17,000.00 and the threat of deportation still looms ominously over the family, while the legal meter moves as rapidly as the waves and continuously as the tides.

The Van hauves's requested a "Police Certificate" and received a Belgian document "Bonne Vie ET Moeurs" and provided it to Canadian immigration officials in Detroit in 2004. This official Belgian document refers only to a "theft" committed by Michel Van hauve in 1981, although Michel has had other minor problems with the Belgian legal system. Michel believed this Belgian document was an affirmation that other past offenses had been pardoned or deemed rehabilitated and therefore only spoke of this one offense. The omission of other offenses was not a deception but an honest belief the others had been expunged from his past. It is just one more example of a faulty system as so often occurs when common people face the uncommon reality of asking bureaucrats, politicians and lawyers to find reasonableness and justice.

When justice cannot be afforded and people cannot endure the legal marathon; corruption wins the race and injustice is the debt we leave our children. The Landowners will continue to fight and provide sanctuary to the Van hauve family in their time of need.
