John Bolton Resigns

By Cliff Kincaid, Presidentamerica's Survival

Tuesday, December 5, 2006

You have probably heard the news that John Bolton is resigning from the U.N., and that President Bush has accepted his resignation. This is a major disappointment and a fiasco. It comes at a time when the U.N. is proceeding with a global tax scheme.

Rep. Jim Leach, a liberal Republican defeated for re-election, has been offered up as a replacement for Bolton. a letter urging the nomination of Leach has been sent by Democratic Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Republican Rep. Jim Walsh.

Leach was a featured attraction at the recent national conference of Citizens for Global Solutions, the group that used to be known as the World Federalist association, which backs global taxes and world government.

anti-Bolton activist Steve Clemons is suggesting defeated liberal "Republican" Senator Lincoln Chafee as a possible Bolton replacement.

as you know, putting the retention of power over principle, the White House had backed Chafee for a Senate seat in Rhode Island, in a primary against an excellent conservative challenger, after Chafee had sabotaged Bolton's nomination in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Chafee lost, and the White House ploy backfired in a big way.

It would be a grave mistake to nominate Leach, Chafee or any other liberal to this important post.

In terms of Congress, we anticipate a Senate push to ratify several controversial treaties, including Law of the Sea, which is unfortunately backed by the Bush administration. Please consult our (www.usasurvival.org/ck42705.shtml) report on this dangerous measure. The election outcome validates our view that the Republican Senate should have brought up the measure in order to defeat it. But we were unable to persuade Senator Frist to pursue this course. It will be difficult to find 34 votes in the Senate to block it, but we will do all that we can.

I have also been told that Senator McConnell will not attach the Senator Inhofe "No Global Taxes" bill to the Foreign Operations appropriations bill because Senate and House Republicans, tired of the big spender label that was pinned on them, have decided to let the new Congress handle these money bills. Inhofe will reintroduce his bill in the next Congress but it will not go anywhere, in all likelihood, because Senator Joe Biden is taking over the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Of course, the ranking Republican and current chairman, Senator Richard Lugar, didn't support the Inhofe bill, either.

We remain convinced that the global taxes issue is the key to educating the public about what is at stake. In that regard, the global taxes provision in the Law of the Sea Treaty is probably the key to defeating that measure.

We need your support to gear up for the battles ahead. Details about contributing can be found (www.usasurvival.org/donate.html) here. Please help.
