Ron Paul, Big Government, Drugs

Loyalty to country, always

By Colleen Minter McCool

As Mark Twain put it: "Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it."

Many of today's leaders seem to have minds like concrete; thoroughly mixed up and permanently set. Blinded by the light of billions in tax and lobby money; bleeding leaders, thus corrupted, are blithely unconscious of the societal harm their policies cause. Jiminey Cricket, where is their conscience?

Throughout history, big government has caused more harm than good; often hiding tyranny under the guise of good intentions. Our founders knew big government would always mean a gang of evildoers.

Politicians are concerned about the next election because there are few true patriots among them. Too, many of these folks want to serve God, but only as advisors. Few are Public Servants who are concerned about the rights of the individual and working for downsizing to a more limited constitutional government. These are true patriots as defined by our founders. Congressman Ron Paul is America's #1 defender of individual liberty and he is running for president in 2008!

Dr. Paul is right! The real cause of this huge quagmire of failed policy is big government, that money hungry beast, Uncle Sam! The beauty of it is when we focus on downsizing our government we regain our roots of self-government and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and future generations.

Big government plays on our fears to make us more accepting of their waste of our precious lives and resources. We have placed too much confidence in our public servants, and failed to properly scrutinize their conduct.

We, the people, have little say in the running of this country. We have turned over the reins to a few cold-hearted, power-mad evil doers with little or no ethics, who in a careless bloodletting, feeding frenzy worship nothing more than the almighty dollar. War creates a booming economy for some on the suffering of many. War is a recipe for disaster. The Iraq war and drug war are smokescreens for corruption but what is that smell?!

Our foreign policy is senseless. We try to dictate democracy! We have abandoned our Constitution and the founder's ideal of nonintervention.

America's drug policies border on insanity! They ignore science, compassion, health and human rights. The American dream of self-government free of tyranny and oppression is being raped by drug warriors.

Tobacco, alcohol, and pharmaceuticals contribute to more deaths each year than all illicit drugs. www.drugwarfacts.org/causes.htm We tolerate their salesmen.

Paramilitary drug raids trigger dozens of needless deaths and injuries, not only of non-violent drug offenders, but also of police officers, children, bystanders, and innocent suspects. www.cato.org/raidmap/

Prohibition triggers violence in our streets and along our borders. It incites terrorists by forcing senseless policy on other countries. It fuels corruption of public officials and injustice in our courts. The statistics reveal that racism is epidemic in the drug war.

Treatment of drug abuse saves precious lives and resources. Warriors need to get their adrenalin rush making us all safer by focusing on murderers and sexual predators. Support for the federal war on drugs is inconsistent with support for individual freedom, constitutional government and the teachings of Jesus.

With modern statistical reporting, we can see where our laws are causing more harm than good and change accordingly. We can't take that necessary evil, money out of the equation but we can demand compassionate policy and ethics from our leaders when peace lovers, liberty lovers, true patriots unite!

Everyone wants to feel safe; to live without fear. Kind parents want that for their children. Most people solve their problems without violence. Ethical governments work toward that goal using arbitration and diplomacy. Our constitution is a plan to create the land of abundance in Bible prophecy. Return to these roots and the task ahead of us will never be as great as the Power behind us!

Leaders responsible for current quagmire will one day answer to a higher power for their crimes against humanity. It's time to end the terror by changing our intrusive, big-bully policies, both foreign and domestic. The monetary and environmental costs are staggering and the human suffering unconscionable.
