Daniele Mastrogiacomo, Beheadings, Islamofascists

Kudos to RAI-1

In early March, Italian journalist Daniele Mastrogiacomo was kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan along with his driver and his interpreter. The journalist was released about two weeks later after Italy negotiated with the terrorists and got the Karzai government to release five senior Taliban prisoners in exchange for Mastrogiacomo.

There was an ensuing uproar over the government of Italy's willingness to negotiate with terrorists and this fact took centre stage to the kidnapping itself. What was lost in all this was what happened to Mastriogiacomo's interpreter and driver; both were beheaded. As we certainly all know by now, no self respecting Islamofascist ever "smites the neck" of an infidel without recording the event for posterity.

A video recording shows Daniele Mastrogiacomo, his driver Sayed Agha and his interpreter Ajmal Naqshbandi kneeling before the gun wielding terrorists. Agha's beheading is filmed, followed by a plea by Mastrogiacomo for the Italian government to do something which, contrary to the chagrin of Italy's NATO allies, they did.

Italy's channel RAI-1 chose to broadcast the video last week including Agha's beheading. It's a safe bet that such events will never see the light of day on a North American television station, even on the dreaded Fox News which is certainly now one of the targets of a future "Don Imus-like takedown" attempt.

Beheadings of this nature should be shown on commercial television; not every one, not often, and certainly not without prior warnings of what is to be broadcast. As anyone who has ever seen one of these tapes on the Internet knows, watching a beheading is not the same as reading about it or even looking at still before and after photographs. Only a video showing the happy jihadists shouting "Allah Akbar" over the primordial screams of the victim while his or her neck is being slowly sliced by a dull knife, can fully convey the true horror of the act and the true nature of what civilization is facing.

This will never happen of course. It is simply too gruesome for purveyors of gangsta rap, sex and violence to ever air. But more importantly, it is too politically incorrect to ever show such a reality. It will make the good Muslims "feel bad". It will give rise to an increase in "Islamophobia". It will make too many people "angry". All of this trumps any educational purpose that airing these tapes would bring.

Perhaps if major networks did show a beheading video once in awhile, people might take what is happening in the world a little more seriously. The war against Islamic fascism might even become more important than Don Imus, Canadian Idol and whether this week's snow storm is actually caused by global warming and therefore the fault of George W. Bush and Stephen Harper.

The reality is that too many people would rather live under an Islamic state than be politically incorrect. RAI-1 deserves a lot of credit for showing the true extent of recent events in Afghanistan.
