We have become a nation of single issue voters and none of us seem too focused on the single issue of protecting and preserving America. If this is how we are going to continue electing leadership for our once great nation, we are indeed doomed…
First off, we don't have an "American" electorate anymore. Nobody seems at all concerned about America when they vote. Half don't bother to vote at all, so they sure can't be confused with anyone who cares about the future of their country. The other half has a dirty little laundry list of special interest litmus tests that drives their self-centered voting habits. Nobody is voting for America anymore… and that's a real problem my friends.
What are we looking for in a national leader? Well, that depends upon who you ask.
It's no longer enough to be a good upstanding American with good leadership skills, strong family values, a sense of decency and honor, a firm moral foundation from which to govern with the support and authority of the people. It's no longer enough to have only America's best interest at heart. A candidate must be more now, or in reality, much less. They must be the best dancing chicken.
It's not enough to be a Christian in a largely Christian nation. One must be the right kind of Christian. Which kind is that? It depends on what kind of Christian you are asking. Evangelicals trust only evangelical Christians, Baptists like Baptists, Methodists like Methodists, only Mormons trust Mormons and nobody likes Catholics anymore. Jew's prefer Jew's but will settle for Christians over Muslims, but Muslims want a Muslim leader and atheists don't want any of them. The religious sure don't want an atheist running things either.
No matter your leadership qualifications, good luck getting the gay vote if you don't pander to the gay agenda. No matter how well you might lead the free world, if you support traditional family values, you won't get to lead, at least the gay community. On the other hand, if you are gay, you are not likely to get the traditional family values vote.
If you're selling the "get-out-of-stupid-pregnancy-free-card" (aka abortion), you can write off the pro-life vote. If you respect innocent human life more than "after-the-fun" birth control, you can write off the pro-abortion vote, or at least those actually committed to their alleged positions.
If you are black, you want a leader who understands that black voters need and deserve gifts from the treasury, assistance in all aspects of individual life, education, money, jobs. You name it - If you don't promise special help ($$$) for the black community as a candidate, then you can forget the black vote. This alone makes you a "racist", you cracker.
In the days of the old traveling side show, you could find the amazing dancing chicken attraction. In short, a live chicken was set upon a hot plate and when the carnie would throw the electric switch, the chicken would dance on the hot metal, much to the amazement and entertainment of the local carnival goer, unaware that the chicken's feet were being fried before their very eyes.
Today's national political campaigns are much like the dancing chicken show. They travel around the country like a side show, being propped upon the hot plate (ideological hot seat) and when their handlers throw the switch, they begin to dance.
Yes Mr. Gay man, I am for gay rights! Yes Mrs. Family values, I'm for you too. Yes Mrs. Abortion, I believe in your right to kill. Yes Mr. Life, nothing is more important than protecting human life. Yes, we will fund your every need. Yes, we will reduce the size and cost of government. Yes, we will help the black community. Yes, we must end the practice of decisions based strictly upon race. Yes my little anti-war friends, we should end the war we already lost. Yes my fellow Americans, we must win the war on terror. Yes…yes…yes…, we will be all things to all people!
The fact is - we aren't looking for a good leader. We are looking for a good follower, a good dancing chicken, a good promise maker, not a good promise keeper. We are not looking for anyone who will tell us the truth. We want to be lied to and we won't vote for anyone unwilling to pander to our individual whims, no matter what party we claim our home.
Those seeking gifts from the treasury will only vote for candidates promising gifts from the treasury. Those seeking a financially sound government will only vote for people unwilling to waste money on an endless stream of government handouts. Those who want favor won't ask what it costs. Those familiar with the "no free lunch" concept, concerned more with the high cost of "free stuff," don't ask for special favor.
Those seeking special rights, whether for the gay community, the black community, the Hispanic community, the Christian community or atheist community, the pro-life or pro-abortion community, will only vote for candidates aligned with their particular sense of values, no matter how peculiar those values might be. There's clearly nothing more important than me…
The rich vote for policies that benefit the rich. The poor vote for policies that benefit the poor. The politicians sell out to both and win elections on the basis of which chicken dances best.
No politician even bothers to come up with a sensible plan for saving America because the people simply are not interested in that subject. Don't worry about outside aggressors. Americans have become their own worst enemy. They alone will destroy America and they are well on their way.
We worried about international terrorism for a few weeks after 9/11. But we have been trying to find a way out of that battle ever since, even though deep down we all know that the enemy will keep coming whether we offer any resistance or not.
For the most financially advanced nation on earth, we aren't too bright when it comes to money. Still, we sense that we are bankrupting our nation with ever increasing government waste, corruption and special interest pandering, yet we see no need to do anything to stop it, as if we are drawing from a bottomless well.
Why do anything for myself when others will do it all for me? Work, sacrifice, risk, effort, individual effort and achievement are all dirty words in America now.
We know we can not afford to be dependent upon third world thugs for our energy needs and none of us wants to return to living in the Stone Age. Yet we see no need to drill our own oil or even expand our own refining capacities to become less dependent on the world's worst regimes.
We want the right to kill the unborn, and then we are shocked when our abortion survivors grow up to kill each other.
Not at election time anyway. We are so consumed by our own special interest desires that we have no time or interest in the bigger picture.
Who feeds the world when America can no longer feed itself?
Who defends freedom, liberty, peace or justice in the world when America is no longer free, peaceful, just or able to even defend itself?
The Soviet Union didn't collapse from allied bombings, long range missiles or even nuclear war. It went bankrupt, as a result of a race to spend money building a military complex to rival America.
America is now going bankrupt in a race to see how much "free stuff" it can "earmark" and plunder from the general treasury for special interest voting blocs of a thousand sorts.
The politicians can't stop themselves from spending, so they can't afford to stop attacking individual freedom and liberty in order to pay for the greater common good.
The Soviet Union bellied up from the arms race. America is about to belly up from the "free stuff" race. Does it really matter which one the resources were wasted on?
I guess the good news is, once America is bankrupt, everyone will finally be equal. Unfortunately, equality will mean equally destitute, defenseless and desperate. Other nations have already learned this lesson. Americans must need a private lesson…
Every election is about one thing and one thing only. America… Love her, protect her, defend her, uphold her, believe in her, respect her and never take your eye off of her, or, lose her…
