Ryan "Reily" Michael English has been sentenced to 73 months in federal prison for charges stemming from a plot to assassinate Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the US Capitol.
English, who is transgender, pleaded guilty in March to charges related to the attempted assassination of Bessent, who was then a Cabinet nominee. The sentencing was originally scheduled for August 14, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. The case dates back to January 27, 2025, when English approached a Capitol Police officer near the South Door and said he wanted to turn himself in. Police found him carrying a
