VANCOUVER—Despite spending more on health care than almost every other comparable country with universal health care, Canada ranks near the bottom in the number of physicians and acute care beds—and suffers from the longest wait times, finds a new study released today by the Fraser Institute, an independent, non-partisan Canadian public policy think-tank. “Canadians pay a lot for their universal health-care system, but compared to other countries with universal health care, our system performs poorly on a number of key measures,” said Bacchus Barua, associate director of health policy studies at the Fraser Institute and co-author of Comparing Performance of Universal Health Care Countries, 2017.
