If you’re shopping around for a new wireless plan this holiday season, you might be shocked at the portion of your monthly bill that goes toward taxes. Almost 20 percent of the final cost is taxes imposed by state and local governments. Since 2008, the average monthly per-line subscription cost of a wireless plan has declined, but the share of taxes for an average bill has grown from 15.1 percent to a record 19.1 percent, according to new Tax Foundation research. While rates can vary, most states impose higher taxes and fees on mobile phone plans than other goods and services. -- More....
