Four related fatal shootings in Clarence, Newstead called 'family tragedy'

Clarence husband and father of four fatally shot his mother and his wife at different locations Thursday morning before driving more than 12 miles to a Newstead shooting range where he shot and killed his father and then himself. “It’s a family tragedy,” Sheriff John Garcia said Thursday afternoon. His office would not confirm the identities of the victims, but confirmed that all were related. “It’s a terrible, terrible event for everyone.” The News independently confirmed the identities of the deceased as Erik Bergum and his wife, Mary Beth, who he is reported to have killed, along with his parents, Nancy and Mark Bergum.-- More...
