Pandemic notwithstanding, it’s been a heady few months for Canada’s auto sector. Ford Canada got a cool $590 million handout from the Ontario and federal governments in exchange for a promise to build electric vehicles in Oakville, while General Motor’s recent pledge to restart production of pick-up trucks in its mothballed Oshawa plant may also end up including taxpayer support. As always, though, it just never seems to be enough.
