The marriage-fraud scandal was supposed to be dead — criminal charges tied to her 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi (allegedly her brother) are time-barred.
She thought it was over.
Here’s the twist:
Under President Trump, DHS is actively pulling immigration files. Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed in December 2025 an ongoing investigation into the fraud allegations.
The pressure point isn’t criminal prosecution — it’s citizenship.
Investigators are reportedly unable to verify records showing Omar’s father (Nur Said Elmi Mohamed) properly naturalized around 2000. Omar claims she derived U.S. citizenship as a minor through her father just before turning 18.
If that naturalization can’t be verified, it raises serious questions about fraud in the original asylum or immigration process — and by law, there is no statute of limitations on denaturalization for fraud.
That means citizenship revocation is still on the table — with potential consequences including loss of her House seat and more.
Bad news for Ilhan.
