At their 21st summit in Montréal, the leaders of Canada and the European Union launched a “Canada-EU Alliance for the Future” to create a common prosperity and economic security space, covering trade, digital technology, critical minerals and energy, financial markets, security and people-to-people ties. The statement says both sides will work to define, by the 2027 summit, an “ever-closer association of Canada to the EU, short of full membership itself.”
