President Trump Forcefully Backs Israel on Golan HeightsWhile congressional Democrats are dealing with the rising tide of anti-Semitism in their own ranks, President Trump struck a blow for Israel’s security by declaring in a tweet his intention to “fully recognize Israel’s Sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability!” His praiseworthy announcement was met with the usual carping from the foreign policy establishment and globalist elites, who noted that President Trump had reversed decades of U.S. policy on the status of the Golan Heights under prior Republican and Democratic administrations. Some accused the president of gratuitously handing a political gift to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing stiff competition in his bid for reelection to a fifth term. The election is on April 9th. Others have charged that President Trump’s support for Israel’s official annexation in 1981 of the Golan Heights, over which Israel assumed control after defeating Syria in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, is tantamount to endorsing a violation of international law, including relevant United Nations Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
