This is nothing new.
I went through the Detroit Public Schools system in the 70s.
Most of the teachers didn't even bother teaching, instead giving out busy work, not even collecting it at the end of class. The union protected them, so they didn't have to worry.
(There was a pedophile in every school too, but again, the union protected them. When they were caught, they were just transferred to a different school.)
Then there's the standardized tests, to make sure the schools were doing their job. That's the only time teachers actually bothered with us. They had copies of the tests, and taught us the answers.
The mantra was, push 'em through, every graduate means federal $$$.
I graduated with 2 people that couldn't read a word. And those were just the two I knew about.

This is widespread around the world. I live in Ontario Canada and when my 45 yr. old son was in school almost 40 years ago. I was told as were many parents back then that if parents didn't teach their own children math, history, reading, writing and so on they would not know it. My daughter in her fifties now needed help too?? I looked into private schools but we were on a farm and I worked shifts and ran a farm I would have to find a school where they could live through the week. I made extra time to really teach and stay in touch with what my children were going through in a failed school system and it is even worse now, even the teachers cannot pass the math exam, so how could they teach it?
A farm school where a teacher tried to tell the kids that turtles lay eggs and sit on them to keep them warm till they hatched, yes really. Misinformation starts in public school but farm kids as mine were knew more than these teachers, at least it was good for a laugh but 3 kids got suspended for trying to tell the teacher that turtles were cold blooded and did not sit on their nests, just one silly story we laughed at but some were not funny.

How sad it is that this is what our government promotes via the NEA. Our children are purposely dumbed down. Phonics is no longer taught in first grade, cursive went out the window not long after phonics. Academic education was eliminated over half a century ago. America's youngsters are propagandized with sexual perversion, with hatred for their country, and with common core garbage that is still promoted throughout America. The government wants mindless little slaves rather than strong devoted Americans who could lift themselves and our country to new heights. Communism is the ultimate goal. That's been in the works since the early 1800s when they started immigrating here from Europe.
