A United States trade organization representing 3,000 manufacturing facilities has written a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lightizer warning that a 2019 campaign promise by the Trudeau Liberals may be in violation of the United States-Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA). Ned Monroe, CEO and president of the Vinyl Institute, writes in a letter dated Sept. 11 that they are “deeply concerned that proposals in Canada to designate plastic as a “toxic substances” under the (Canada Environmental Protection Act) are potentially inconsistent with Chapter 12 of the USMCA and Canada’s obligations under the World Trade Organization’s Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement.”-- More...
