One dubious advantage to being in a community that has 'urban death culture' pumped into every crevice since the 1990s is it helps you recognize mass weaponization to keep groups unsafe and unproductive.

It's a settled point that the 'gangsta rap' of my 'Generation X' era was designed to take us, and those behind us, off the trail of self knowledge and empowerment represented by both 'conscious rap' and entry into the professions prioritized by the civil rights movement.
