The truth is that members of the American Armed Forces have a long history of trying to assist local civilians during engagements, and lending aid and comfort is almost always one of their primary goals.
Even after their service is up, many of them become aid workers - dedicating themselves to the effort to help those in harm's way. You'd never know it if you only listen to the left.
