Word is that the Senate has the necessary votes for federal gun control legislation designed to, among other things, pressure states into instituting "red flag" laws. These measures are controversial because they involve suspending a person's rights (i.e., seizing his weapons) without due process. Wherever you stand on them and federal firearms laws in principle, however, a simple fact is under-emphasized in this debate: Laws mean little if not enforced.
What's more, they're actually instruments of evil if only enforced to the degree where good people will comply.The Comment section of online publications is the new front in the ongoing Cancel Culture Battle.

Conservatives rightfully object to red flag laws because most of them give short shrift to due process.
Would that objection go away if federal & state red flag laws were written to specify the process due?
Draft red flag laws to model mental health temporary commitment statutes, which have existed in all states for decades, and which have passed constititional muster as to due process.
* No seizure without a judge's order granted after a preliminary ex parte hearing using the same standard as for arrest warrants.
* Full adversarial hearing within 72 hours with notice.
* Counsel provided at state expense.
* Court reporter provided at state expense.
* Clear & convincing evidence standard, at a minimum; perhaps even require proof beyond reasonable doubt.
* Burden of proof on the state throughout the process.
* Civil & criminal liability for petitioners who file in bad faith or contrary to evidence presented at initial hearing.
* Order subject to appeal into court system on same basis as a criminal conviction.
* Seizure order cannot be permanent and automatically expires after 6 months, with automatic restoration of rights and return of seized weapons unless the state petitions for another hearing before expiration of the order and proves its case again.
* No destruction or disposal of seized weapons; no neglectful storage; seizing entity liable for damage or loss during storage.
Red flag law advocates should bear in mind that a person dangerous to self or others can be removed as a threat, without weapons confiscation, by using existing mental health commitment laws.
Red flag opponents should bear in mind that the US Supreme Court held in Heller and McDonald that nothing in those opinions should be construed as interfering with existing laws prohibiting gun ownship by certain classifications of people, including the mentally ill.

Don't get me started on Trudeau and our Liberals.
My lifelong collection is about to be stolen and made for the rest of my life stay in my gun safe untill I kick the bucket at at which time the Gestapo (RCMP) just like as in1940 in Europe come and take the rest of them (uncompensated ) for DESTRUCTION.
Now keep in mind that this is also a retirement investment.
The new law also prevents me from moving the collection to a different country.
I had a 40year good run in Canada but today I regret not sticking with my original plan and emigrated to the USA or Hungary lol

Im NOT talking about the NEW red flag laws that have yet to be put into law (as of 6-16-2022) Im talking about the laws in the books BEFORE any red flag law.
AHEMM... the 2nd amendment for one. Now if a person is DEEMED incompetent (or crazy) by a NON-partisan board OR convicted of a MAJOR felony by a NON-partisan board/ jury of thier peers. Thjen YES take thier guns away.
Do we have reason t worry now...YES! These people in power have shown for the LAST 20 YEARS that they dont give a flying monkey fart about LAWS or the CONSTITUTION.
