The resignation by former Trump administration National Counter-Terrorism Center head Joe Kent has sent shockwaves like few others felt politically. Its timing at this critical juncture of the war against Iran is telling. What exactly his departure tells us is being hotly debated.

Kent's service record in US Army Special Forces and as a CIA paramilitary officer, along with the combat death of his wife, earns his criticism rare credibility. Objective observers will concede that much going into this firestorm.

His opposition to the war effort and US support for Israel will trigger not only isolationist allegations but possible anti-semitism ones. Competing suspicions aside, this is an extremely high profile expression of resurgent paleo-conservative sentiment toward the Jewish State on his part.

How his resignation and anticipated media appearances impact troop morale privy to it and public support of the war effort remains to be seen. Especially since midterms are around the political corner.
