This wreath-laying concept was born on the slopes of Mont Ormel in Normandy, where some years ago I stood on the ground where the 1st Polish Armored Division, the Winged Cavalry of the First Canadian Army, closed the Falaise gap and ended the bloody Normandy campaign.
