10 Years Of Pain, Solved In One Visit

For nearly a decade, Lara Logan lived with excruciating pain from internal injuries sustained during the brutal mob attack and sexual assault she survived while reporting in Egypt for 60 Minutes

The pain was so severe that some nights she could barely walk, crawling to the bathroom just to get through it.

Then Dr. David Young took a closer look.

After reviewing years of medical records and scans, Dr. Young identified a fluid-filled pocket on her psoas muscle, deep inside her abdomen near the spine.

He consulted with a radiologist and other physicians, helping arrange a relatively simple procedure to drain the fluid.

The result? Lara says the pain that had haunted her for nearly 10 years was gone.

“I walked out of there, my life was changed forever. I never had that pain again.”

Now, the doctor who helped give Lara her life back is serving a 10-year federal prison sentence in a healthcare fraud case. He maintains his innocence.

In this deeply personal interview, Lara visits Dr. Young behind bars to share his story, examine his conviction, and reveal why she believes a grave injustice has occurred.

WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILS THE PEOPLE: Behind Bars with Emergency Physician Dr. David Young.

Lara goes inside a Bastrop, Texas, prison camp to interview Dr. David Young, an emergency-room physician of 30-plus years who never faced a malpractice suit and is now serving 10 years with $26 million in restitution. A longtime friend who testified in his defense, Lara argues he was wrongfully convicted: as the government pushed care online, telehealth companies recruited and conned doctors like Young, hiding the fraud from him. Young, who has saved Lara’s life more than once, shares how faith and family sustain him and why he turned down a plea deal: “I’m not going to plead to something I didn’t do.”
