Canadian Taxpayers Federation granted intervener status in Supreme Court carbon tax appeal

OTTAWA, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation’s Federal Director Aaron Wudrick released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court of Canada’s order that the CTF be granted intervener status in the Saskatchewan and Ontario constitutional reference appeals on the federal carbon tax:
“We are pleased to have been granted intervener status in this landmark court challenge. “As the only non-government intervener opposing the federal carbon tax, we look forward to advancing arguments in court on behalf of Canadian taxpayers to ensure this punitive policy is recognized for what it is: an unconstitutional tax. “The federal government calls the carbon tax a fee or levy that it can impose and raise through regulation. The CTF has consistently argued that the carbon tax is a tax and elected officials have to stand and vote if they want to impose or raise it. The CTF’s position is based on a fundamental principle of accountability: no taxation without representation.”
