Whose future is most at stake in the Impeachment Trial?

Whose future is most at stake in the Impeachment Trial? The obvious answer is Donald J. Trump. Trump Haters hope that, even when acquitted by the Senate, his reputation will be so tarnished that it will reduce his chances for reelection, and dishonor his legacy. Or, at least, put the patina of failure on his first-term successes and bring him early lame-duck status in a second.

Trump’s future is not at risk

But Trump’s future is not at risk. In fact, the impending trial may launch it into a higher orbit. The next possible answer to the question is the Democrat Party. Caught in a swirl of shifting, unsubstantiated accusations against the 45th President of the United States, their behavior has reached epic levels of Silly from the World of Bizarro. Largely due to Nancy in Wonderland. But there is no risk to the Democrats’ future. It enjoys support from a large base of like-minded haters of the Orange Man. The Democrat’s traveling troupe of Presidential Candidates is an accurate reflection of the party. It’s led by a former Vice President whose sole claim to fame is that Barack Obama picked him as a running mate. There a U.S. Senator with a faux claim to an American Indian heritage, unable to maintain a consistent narrative of her personal history. Fake squaw lies. And, an angry old Socialist/Communist who thinks the old Soviet Union was as close to Nirvana as humanity has yet come. (Ayn Rand said that Communism enslaves by force; socialism by vote. It’s merely the difference between murder and suicide.) While Bern’s the leading candidate for free stuff, Warren runs a close second.

So, is the future of the Democrat Party at risk? Not a bit

Finally, there’s the Mayor of a relatively small, university town in Indiana who flies the Rainbow Flag as his moniker, and promises to legalize all drugs. Which would reduce the drug cartels’ profits, but offer a big increase in the federal government’s tax base. Hey, if you can’t/won’t eradicate the crime – tax it. Additionally, there are two billionaires with money to burn on an ego trip – jealous of the billionaire in office. So, is the future of the Democrat Party at risk? Not a bit. They are who they are. Bernie Sanders is his true self. Elizabeth Warren is a figment of her imagination. Joe Biden is lost in a mind fog. And Mayor Pete is the joker in the short deck. That leaves only one choice for most at risk. The Grand Ole Party of the Republic. The Republicans. The Party of Lincoln and the Chamber of Commerce. Their future is most at risk in the trial. Trump’s picture is the top card in the Republican bubblegum deck. But he is not a Republican politician. He’s not a politician, period. He’s an outlier. An anomaly. A one-of-a-kind. And when he’s no longer POTUS, the circus will likely revert to its former self, because the tent doesn’t sit in a Swamp. It’s pitched over a perpetually fed Sewer, and the toilet just keeps flushing.

President Andrew Jackson

Lamar Alexander, Susan Collins, Willard Romney, Cory Gardner, Richard Burr, Ben Sass, Lisa Murkowski represent who is on trial. The Republican Party

Trump has a picture of a youngish Andrew Jackson in his office. It’s not the one where “Old Hickory” is well advanced in age. He eventually no longer looked like the man on Trump’s Oval Office wall, or on the U.S. twenty-dollar bill. But he was still tough, unconventional, and independent. Same as he was at the Battle of New Orleans. In comparison to these two Presidents, the GOP lacks a spine. And unlike the Democrats, it lacks any definitive, core, political ideology. In short, in the House, the GOP has a small cadre of fighters. But its senators don’t fight. They are mostly ladies and gentlemen who speak in measured tones, thoughtfully. So as not to offend. As the Trial of the Century begins – with relatively few citizens watching – attention will focus on several GOP senators, including, but not limited to: Lamar Alexander (R. TN); Susan Collins (R. Maine); Willard Romney (R. Utah); Cory Gardner (R. CO); Richard Burr (R. NC); Ben Sass (R. NE) and Lisa Murkowski (R. AK). They represent who is on trial. The Republican Party.
