How Me and A Yoga Teacher Created Safety Together!

'The Dharma of Safety Creation' is a community meditation or presentation I've formulated for years in this 'blue' or majority, yoga-friendly Democratic city.

It explores how I took my 'safety creation' model and ended up partnering it with a laid back leftist who became a friend. As a husband, father and yoga instructor to a largely female following of students and teachers, he's a 'safety creator' in his own right too.

My model is nonpartisan and as such departs from what the left and right offer in the way of safety. 'Safety creation' is also a strong reaction to preferential treatment partisans lavish on favored felons.

Both sides of the aisle excuse and enable scoundrels and literal domestic terrorists so long as they're part of their ideology. I won't name names but the last two presidential administrations showed favoritism to guilty parties belonging, you guessed it, to their own political party.

One looked the other way at 'Summer of Love' rent-a-rioters wreaking havoc nationwide while the other granted blanket pardons and commutations to partisans who stormed the Capitol to stop Biden's still-contested electoral victory from being certified.

Speaking of President Biden, and hidden handlers, I'll name names: Hunter Biden.

But for his pedigree he would be in federal prison or unhoused due to serious drug addiction.

Minus this pedigree he wouldn't have earned a fortune as an *ahem* 'energy executive' and well compensated son of a former US Senator, Vice-President and President of the United States.

Men with his drug habit where I'm from end up imprisoned, homeless, fugitives or dead.

Let's continue exploring my alternative to conventional private security. It was born from lived experience as a community member dissatisfied with versions of 'safety' offered by both major political ideologies.

This lived experience included encountering a status quo version of 'safety' where all boys and men resembling me could be considered 'suspicious' or 'criminal' simply for being out in public. Such was life in the late 20th century South, especially during the crack cocaine invasion.

Conversely, I've witnessed a social justice version of 'safety' where known attackers, burglars and thieves were never given sufficient sanctions, thereby endangering community members in a vicious cycle of unaddressed working class-on-working class crime with upper income victims tossed in upon occasion.

My response to politicized 'safety' was creating authentic, accessible safety free of status quo pretensions and social justice permissiveness. Lives and property are honored by introducing violators to accountability.

I don't play favorites based on political philosophy. Negative behavior regardless of affiliation is the criteria for safety being created to displace it.

That's it. No exemptions offered for troublemakers just because they're on the same philosophical side concerning political issues.

Speaking of philosophy, a yoga parallel to my path is its similarity to the Hindu concept of 'dharma' or right living. It's also central to yoga practitioners in the West.

Practicing this principle from a different perspective led to an act of splendid synchronicity which introduced me to a yoga instructor, musician, Celtic mystic and all-around righteous dude whose work inspired my presentation.

This New Orleanian founded a popular yoga studio in his hometown. So popular in fact that a student bought it after hearing my friend was offered an out-of-town executive director position at a similar institution.

While our practices appear different on the surface, goals remain the same: saluting the divinity within people and 'yokeing' or disciplining ideas and actions which defile that divinity.

We met before the 2020 pandemic when I was safety and support manager at a building where my friend's former yoga studio had a space.

You wouldn't believe our adventures and the little to be shared will whet your appetite for more tales.

I assure you.

Case in point: This weekend while serving as head security person at a Mardi Gras parade afterparty for the fourth Carnival season, I re-connected with one of his students whose stalker I 'zapped' with a stun gun and had police officers escort out of an otherwise calm concert where the yoga instructor was singing.

Neither of us are connected anymore with the building where we met. We remain connected years later in a mutual pursuit of honoring in-dwelling divinity wherever souls gather.

It's in the spirit of honoring individual worth that I asked to share this long-in-the-works presentation, 'The Dharma of Safety Creation': A Community Meditation, at any of the instructor's New Orleans events. I also requested him as a fellow facilitator to share his role in its origin.

That's how this presentation about me and a yoga instructor who create safety together began.
