Is This Heaven?

I recently saw a meme posted by Christforeverco that has prompted me to write this piece. That meme said this:

“Heaven has a wall, a gate, and a strict immigration policy. Hell has open borders.”

In conjunction with that thought, another quote popped into my head from the movie Field of Dreams, when a ghostly figure asked the lead character; “Is this heaven?” to which the lead character said, “No, it is Iowa.”

These quotes have caused me to reconsider the place the constitutional republic known as the United States of America holds in the world. After the American Civil War, America’s status in the world changed. At the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century the United States became the one place in the world where everyone had a desire to migrate to. For the first 150 years, America had a very open immigration policy. Then the number of people desiring to come to America exceeded America’s ability to accept those numbers and restrictive immigration policies were put into place.

With the influx of foreign visitors that came to the United States for the 2026 Soccer World Cup Tournament and their reaction to being in America awakened a new pride in me. The United States of America is, in fact, an exceptional place on the planet. Is America heaven? Of course not. However, America is the closest place on earth to heaven because it now has a wall, a gate, and strict immigration policies. A pretty bold statement, wouldn’t you agree?

Think about it. How many other countries on the planet have people waiting in line for years, even decades, to legally immigrate? How many other countries on the planet have had to build a wall to prevent illegal immigration?

How many countries on the planet have built walls to keep their citizens from escaping their tyrannical repressive governments (Hell)? How many countries on the planet put political dissidents in jail for criticizing the government (Hell)? How many countries on the planet put political dissidents to death for criticizing the government (Hell)? Need I go on?

America’s founders did not promise a perfect government, only the most perfect government devised so far. And 250 years later, the United States government is still the best on the planet. The American system has lifted more people out of poverty in America and around the world than any other government in history. The American system leads the world in advancement of all technologies in the world. It is not an exaggeration to say America has spent more blood and treasure saving the world than any other government in history.

Is this heaven? No, it is the United States of America.
