Ask yourself, “What are we leaving our children?”

I was thinking back to when I was a child. Back then we didn’t have a lot of stuff. But then we didn’t miss what we didn’t have. Sure, on some Christmas mornings there was some disappointment with a gift that wasn’t there, but there was family; there was love; there was a sense of belonging, like you were part of something bigger than yourself. You were raised by parents who were preparing you for life. There was a sense of optimism.
I don’t know if I’m being wistful, remembering something that never was, but I miss the feeling of those days. I hope all is well in your home. But you look around and the decay in our cities reflects the moral decay in the land. Hopelessness seems to be everywhere. Drug taking is up. Suicide is up, especially among young people.
It’s in the ’60s that everything seemed to change. Young people were wearing jeans and long hair, all to express our “individuality”. The campus radicals were leading anti-war riots. Students were energized. They wanted to change the world. Then the bombings started and violence and carnage. That’s when everything changed. Francis Schaeffer said that, when he talked to young people as they travelled throughout Europe, what had infected them was apathy.
The sense of wanting to make the world a better place was gone. To the relief of everyone, the campus radicals disappeared. But that was an illusion. They had just crept into academia, to groom the next generation of radicals to take their place. They had gone into government to effect their agenda. They had gone into the teaching profession to infect the minds of children with radical ideas. We are seeing the fruit of their labour today.
America is roughly evenly divided into two warring camps, the radical left on one side that wants uniformity to their absurd, utopian way of thinking. The ordinary citizen on the other who just wants to be left alone to make their own way in the world without having to worry about the government breathing down their necks.
America is back to where it was at the time of the Revolution. Taxation without representation. Those in government don’t seem to care about their constituents at least until election time. Then it’s promises they don’t intend to keep, but they sound nice, and get them elected. Then they hope people won’t notice what they are not doing in government, which is looking out for the welfare of their constituents.
They’re sending manufacturing jobs out to cheap third world workers for the enrichment of their donors. They’re bringing in cheap foreign labour to dilute the population. They are turning a blind eye to the food industry which make products that are addictive and ruining peoples’ health, then allowing the drug companies to produce some concoction to make them feel better, all paid for by health insurance. A food-medicine-insurance combine.
They take away hope which fuels the psychological and psycho-pharmaceutical industry to produce products to allow people to cope with the hopelessness, but which have the side effect of homicidal and suicidal tendencies. A complete downward spiral.
And all on my watch.
In “Delivery Us From Evil”, Ravi Zacharias outlined the three-pronged attack.
Then came COVID-19 and everything changed again. There were the lockdowns, wearing of masks, 6’ distancing. But, amidst the lockdowns and remote schooling something happened. Parents were exposed to what their children were learning in school and they were appalled. Some took the masks their children wore for one day and sent them to a lab to be checked and found: pneumococcal, meningococcal, legionella, and one COVID-19 virus particle. The masks weren’t protecting their children; they were making them sick.
Trust in the institutions, teaching, medical, government, et al. was destroyed.
Parents were learning that instead of being taught life skills like reading, writing, mathematics, civics, history, their children were being bombarded by leftist indoctrination. University students were learning that their universities, for which they were paying obscene tuitions, were not doing what they were supposed to be doing, which is giving them skills in critical thinking and preparing them for the workforce. Ask them how many positions in the business world are available for someone who majored in gender studies.
I live in Canada, and if Mark Carney were to call an election, he and the Liberal party will probably be re-elected. I despair of my fellow Canadians. Under Stephen Harper, Canada’s business growth was on par with the US. After Trudeau was elected, US business growth continued, but Canadian business growth tanked and under Carney it will only get worse.
It is time to wake up, to take a hard look around. Is this the kind of legacy we want to leave our children? Do we really think we have made the world a better place?
I hate to say it, but when things get this bad, when things look completely hopeless, there is only one solution. We need to take a hard look at ourselves and admit to ourselves that we have made a dog’s breakfast of the world we were given by our parents, and turn to the one person who can fix this mess--God, Jesus Christ. We need to collectively, as a people, cry out to him “Deliver us from evil”, the evil we have allowed into the land, and if we truly repent, He will heal our hearts; He will heal our land, and we will have a legacy we can be proud to pass on to our children.
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
