Defining the Expectation

A Call to National Prayer and Fasting



There are those optimistic souls who believe the problems we face now we have faced in different costume before. We solved those problems and moved on. Our best years are still ahead of us, or not, but install our brand of political leadership and life is beautiful; maybe Renaissance beautiful, or not. Nothing matters, and what if it did?
We can only hope that freedom, competent leadership, a well equipped military, high employment, stable families, and unity in policy are high on everybody’s list of priorities. But we also take notice of what Benjamin Franklin said: “God rules in the affairs of men, and if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it possible that an empire can rise without his aid?” We need His aid. Our fears and concerns and grievances are complex. Let us not be so politically correct as to content ourselves with a prayer for world peace. Assuming we want to make sense, let us be bold enough to specifically describe the concerns we face. So it follows we would specifically pray, for example, for the peace of Jerusalem. And then as we name our concerns, we ask (according to 2 Chronicles 7:14, Matthew 18:19, and Joel 2: 28-32, for openers) that the Lord provide a way where there is no way, that America is restored again.

What are the “concerns”? They are shadowy and imponderable. Here and abroad we have growing division and chaos. There is concern for “what is coming on the earth,” including global climate change. There is concern among evangelicals that we are living in an era before The Rapture – and we are not agreed on the timing in relation to the establishment of Israel and a so-called Tribulation. There is concern that we are living through Judgment and Delusion, with curses involving our faltering support of Israel, and the disputed Mormon heterodoxy. There is concern that God has taken down His hedge of protection. There are economic and military concerns. There is concern over the economic and moral drag of “Obamacare.” There is a concern over the willful downsizing of our superpower status. There is concern with the lack of drilling here and dependence on Middle East oil which, if it were cut off would leave us vulnerable. There is concern for the “shortsighted” Arab Spring agenda, which has enabled the spread of Sharia law, and instability on the borders of Israel and elsewhere. There is concern for rising prices and more layoff; concern for a worldwide financial crash; concern over losing traditional America and Western culture, first to some amorphous “fairness” that will break us, and then for a New World Order, or World Caliphate. Since 9-11 there is growing concern for a shadowy enemy that has struck us, defined by our leaders as a religion of peace, except for a few rogue extremists. This enemy must be opposed with the most considerate rules of engagement, especially with regard to his skin color, religious vagaries and the offenses we could provoke. There is concern for the progressive education agenda and NEA dominance over teachers which have led to lower student world ranking, and a rise in home schooling. There is concern for the erosion of freedoms, soft tyranny, lack of representation in congress, and a predicted loss of the American Dream in the time of our children’s children. There is concern about the coming election [40% may vote before November 6, and a Spanish contractor with connections to George Soros will count the votes, widespread voter fraud is expected, and results may not be known for weeks]. There are concerns about our President. [According to Joseph Farah, he always wears a gold ring inscribed: “There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet.”] There is concern about evil being called good. Again, our concerns are many and complex. To quote Franklin D. Roosevelt in an earlier generation, there is “the fear of fear itself.” But “the Greatest Generation” turned back the Axis threat, starting in the hole of Pearl Harbor. Let us pray for our general concerns and fears, as well as others more specific and personal, as the Spirit leads. We have a guaranteed expectation of His clear answer when we pray:
What are the 3 main verses wherein if we pray in faith we should expect America’s restoration in a time of moral backsliding? “If My people which are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.” [2 Chronicles 7:14] “Again, truly I tell you, if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by My father in heaven.” [Matthew 18:19] “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” [Hebrews 11:1] Our national motto is “In God We Trust.” Everywhere we see the symbols of Christianity being removed from the public forum. How do we know our trust is not in vain? “For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake His faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off.” [Psalm 37:28] “We have this expectation when we pray: that if we ask anything in His name, it will be done by the father so that the Son might be glorified.” [1st John 5:14] “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots, and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.”[Isaiah 31:1] “Whoever attacks you will surrender to you.” [Isaiah 54:15] “So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” [Hebrews 13:6] “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” [Psalm 103:13] How should we know what to do – even what to pray? “Then you will call, and the Lord will answer. You will cry for help and He will say: ‘Here am I’” [Isaiah 58:9] “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.” [Psalm 32:8] “I love those who love Me; and those who seek Me find Me.” [Proverbs 8:17] Shall we be held up to shame if we pray over certain issues -- even if we have prayed in the millions, and according to Matthew 18:19? “See I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.” [1 Peter 2:6] “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.” [Nahum 1:7] “Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more.” [Job 8:22] “And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will He keep putting them off?” [Luke 18:7] If God has sent Judgment and Delusion, can He repent? “The Lord disciplines those He loves, as a father the son he delights in.” [Proverbs 3:12]: For He wounds but He also binds up; he injures, but His hands also heal.” [Job 5: 18] “For the Lord your God is a merciful God; He will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers.” [Deuteronomy 4:31] “He who works the land will have abundant food; but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment.” [Proverbs 12:11] “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.” [Proverbs 12: 24] Is it possible, with the odds so “strangely” against us, that we can prevail? “Everything is possible for him who believes.” [Mark 9:23] “No weapon formed against you will prosper.” [Isaiah 54:17] “The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil.” [Psalm 125:3] “Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you.” [Isaiah 54:14] “Everyone who has this hope purifies himself, just as He is pure.” [John3:3] “When calamity comes the wicked are brought down; but even in death the righteous have a refuge.” [Proverbs 14:32] “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will perish. [Proverbs 19:9] What if we have been weighed in the balance and found wanting? What should our attitude then be? “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way, and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with surging.” [Psalm 46: 1-3] “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” [Philippians 4: 12, 13] “He provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever.” [Psalm 111:5] “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life.” [Luke 12; 22] These verses are intended to build faith. Spoken together in faith and love, on November 1, they will be a million fold cord of prayer. Whatever political filter may give offense to these or whatever objection to the language or perceived grandstanding, seek the Lord for the wisdom he promises to give in James 1:5.
