A Nation on the Razor’s Edge

A Nation on the Razor’s EdgeAbout a week ago, when Jerry Nadler—a man whose politics are repellant to me--had his ostensible “accident,” this writer rapped some conservatives for making fun of something that transcends politics—as in old age and the increasing level of infirmity, sometimes humiliating infirmity, that comes with it. What the nation has witnessed in the last couple of days, following Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis, is quite revealing. A considerable number of self-professed “tolerant” progressives are apparently incapable of demonstrating anything resembling simple human decency, with some even wishing Trump would die. For such people, wholly unlike the aftermath of Pearl Harbor or 9/11, politics no longer "stops at the water’s edge.” For such people, politics is now an all-consuming, zero sum game, manifested in its most virulent form: You either agree with me, or you’re the enemy.

The enemy who must be completely destroyed

The enemy who must be completely destroyed. Most Americans have no clue that the current “revolution" is being perpetrated from the top down, not the bottom up. BLM and Antifa are its ultimately disposable, useful idiot foot soldiers. Academia and pop culture are its ideological incubators. And the mainstream media are its mouthpiece. The agenda is quite straightforward: A number of multi-nationalist, America-in-name-only, Ruling Class titans, with companies whose market caps exceed the GDP of most of the world’s sovereign nations, no longer wish to be constrained by those nations--or the nation-state itself. They see themselves as “enlightened" citizens of the world whose “expertise”— measured solely in terms of historically unprecedented levels of wealth and power--entitles them to rule over the “benighted” classes. Toward that end, they have aligned themselves with the Communist Chinese Party, whose state media's denigration of Trump sounded remarkably similar to a number of progressives’ equally contemptible remarks. And if they succeed in engineering the “fundamental transformation of the United States of America?” No one will more more surprised than their leftist enablers, who will belatedly discover they are every bit as “deplorable”—and dismissible—as the most rabid Trump supporter.

Here’s hoping at least 51% of the electorate rejects this calculated debasement of our national identity

Much to her credit, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow asked Americans to pray for the President's and First Lady's "speedy and complete recovery — and for everyone infected, everywhere.” Sadly, in today’s political climate, the first thing that comes to mind is whether or not she will be “cancelled” for her “heresy.” Yet what is the Cancel Culture--with a data-mining, privacy-invading Big Tech leading the way--other than an attempt to maintain totalitarian levels of acceptable Groupthink? And who is more voluntarily enslaved by Groupthink than younger Americans, many of whom now believe that some level of violence is acceptable in service to shutting down speech they find offensive—even as their fragility is so transparent, terms like “trigger warnings,” “micro-agressions” and “snowflakes” have become part of the lexicon? Those who yearn for the president’s demise, or take a certain level of satisfaction in his suffering, are utter fools. In the entire history of mankind, nothing has better facilitated the imposition of unassailable power than making life seem cheap as possible. Here’s hoping at least 51% of the electorate rejects this calculated debasement of our national identity. Countries still matter. And our country is still the last best hope of mankind—until it’s not.
