We need a man like Gideon in the White House

A parable for our day

In the richest land this world has ever seen there was a very large family. They wanted for nothing. They worked very hard and all pulled together to make a success for all of them. They believed in God and tried their best to serve him. In fact the motto on the family crest was “We trust God.”
This happy family lived in a big house with wide roads leading to it from everywhere. The family included merchants, teachers, farmers, businessmen and some who worked in the family businesses which were flourishing and making a profit every year. The mother of this family kept everything together in the household. She was a good woman who wanted only to make a home for her husband and her children. But over the years she grew tired of always working so hard and when a stranger came along and tempted her; she divorced the father and made him leave the home so the stranger could move in. The stranger declared that he was now the new father of the family and he made some changes that hurt the family and the family businesses. The mother seemed happy at first, but then she grew tired of the new father and after four years she kicked him out too. Next January a new father was installed as head of the house but he was no better than the last one. And so the mother went looking for a new man to take over the duties of father. In fact it happened on a very regular basis. Every four or eight years to be exact, she kicked out the head of the home and replaced him with another father for her children and, with the exception of one or two, each father was worse than the father before him.

The children welcomed their new fathers because they always promised to make the family rich and powerful and give them all the latest toys to play with. But in time each of those fathers let down the children and few of them ever kept their promises. One of the fathers, his name was Richard, went on a long voyage and when he returned he told the family “We are all so rich I've decided to make people rich in other countries too. So I've given away some of your jobs to poor people in another country”. Soon the poor people in the other country were also rich. In fact they became richer than the family and the family members could not find good jobs to support themselves. Another father that the mother married said he thought the family should take in people from other countries and pay for them to have babies and for their kids to be educated and give them money for food and nice homes. He said these people had worked too much in their own country so the family should make sure they never had to work again. At the same time the newest fathers took expensive vacations all over the world and played golf almost every weekend instead of taking care of the family. They said the family should not share I these privileges because they had always lived well and it was time let someone else enjoy their dream even if they did not want to work for it. So the family members found themselves working harder and harder to try to pay their bills and support the people who did not want to work. The family included some uncles and aunts but they never saw these uncles or aunts. They were always meeting in a big house on a hill a long way off where they and other uncles and aunts decided what was best for the family even though they never spent any time with them. The uncles claimed that they were working for the good of the family but since they never came home and never talked to the other members of the family it seemed impossible for them to know what the family really needed or wanted. The family also discovered that the uncles and aunts had a private income from a trust set up by one of the original fathers that allowed the uncles to take as much money as they wanted and use it for many things the family did not approve of. The uncles claimed that they were protecting the family against some of the wicked fathers who had moved in with the mother from time to time. But in fact the family discovered that the uncles were doing no good for the family at all. They only wanted to make themselves rich and keep taking money from the family bank account. Over a period of time the uncles stopped believing in God and told the family they could no longer teach the children what was right and discipline them. They appointed wicked judges who told the children not to obey the parents and to demand that they be given bigger and more expensive toys to play with. They even told them not to obey God but do whatever they pleased without regard for anyone else. One of the worst of all the fathers made things far worse by bringing in more and more of the foreigners who refused to work and demanding that the family pay for everything the foreigners wanted. Then he told the family they must no longer believe in God but change to believing in the false god the foreign people believed in. It was their trust in the God of the Bible that had made the family strong and rich in the first place and now without any moral guidance or faith the family began to split apart and fight among themselves. Eventually the day came when the bank called to say there was no more money in the family account. The only thing they could do was to pay for everything with their credit cards. But they soon found the cards had been used to the maximum. Suddenly they found themselves destitute with no jobs and no credit. Then the latest father and the uncles told the family there was no money to pay all of the bills they were incurring in the big house on the hill. They demanded more money from the family. When the family could not pay they said they were sorry but the father and the uncles would have to take the house from the family and they would have to live on the street from now on. And the conclusion of this parable is not very far off. There is only one chance left for this family. They must find a new father. That father must communicate with God and lead the children to do it too. The false gods that some of the family have been worshipping must be rejected and removed. The foreigners who have rejected God and who have refused to support themselves with honest work must be sent home. But can the family find a really good father this time? There doesn’t seem to be much change of that happening.

ONE MORE THOUGHT

I have written many articles on a political note. But I have never hidden the fact that my first allegiance is to God Almighty. I have made it clear that in my opinion America is facing the judgment of God for turning her back on God and on Israel (God’s Beloved). America has voted in a president and members of Congress who have committed treason and have destroyed the America we all believe in. Now our land is filled with the enemies of God and no matter how many “God Bless America” bumper stickers we display, God cannot bless America as she is. In Judges Chapter 6 God judged Israel. Things were very bad and the people were living in caves in the mountains scared to death of the enemy who had invaded the Land. But God sent a deliverer, a leader to bring them victory. His name was Jerub-ba’al, meaning “May Ba-al (heathen god) give increase”. But before this man could bring about a victory over the enemy forces God told him he must change his name to Gideon and forsake all of the heathen cult worship he had grown up with. Then he must go onto his father’s property and destroy the altars and the shrines to the heathen gods and make a sacrifice to the God of the Bible. After having done that he assembled an army. God told him the army was too big so he chose only 1% and with that small band God was able to bring victory over the vast armies of the enemy. We need a man like Gideon in the White House. We have a choice. On the one hand we have a man who is not even an American who is outspoken in his hatred of God, freedom, democracy and everything we hold dear as Americans. On the other hand we have a good man with excellent principles, and he like Gideon, could destroy the false gods and the enemy that has invaded our land. Marcia and I will be coming to Florida from Costa Rica in November to do our part to see that this Gideon has our vote and we will pray for him to help turn America back to the one true God – the God of the Bible. We will also pray that he will lead our country back to being the friend of Israel she has always been until recently.
