A Political Consultant Buddy Tried To Browbeat Me Into Backing Kamala Harris

'Just got got off the phone w/a political consultant buddy telling me, Roland Martin style, that my intended vote for RJKJr is wasted and furthermore stealth support for Trump. Browbeating is already at a fevered pitch to guilt Black support for Harris. Lol--Cap Black'

Backstory:

A surprise conference call tonight from two activist friends had one, a political consultant, try to browbeat me into backing Vice President Kamala Harris’s bid for president.

Needless to say even if his rhetorical beating upon my brows were the size of dinosaur claws, they still wouldn't be big enough to sway me?

I am after all, a self-described 'independent-independent' and thus owe zero automatic allegiance to any candidate, external political party or outside ideology. All are examined on a case by case basis.

Since she still hasn't posted her 2024 presidential campaign platform, I told him supporting her sight-unseen was unwise. I added that her Biden administration positions on immigration and gun control deeply troubled me.

I don't want my claim on this country trampled under a stampede of migrants nor wish being disarmed should self defense against them, violent Black community traitors or any aggressor become necessary.

His counter argument about former president Donald Trump's ominous promise of 'total immunity' to police was a point of grave mutual concern given heated history of our community and law enforcement.

While energetic policing is much needed, it shouldn't come as part of a return to 20th century style heavy handedness and unaccountability.

I even snarked that President Biden probably can't tell the difference between George Floyd and George Jefferson, a Black sitcom character familiar to viewers in the Baby Boom and Generation X demographics.

He strongly feels a second Trump administration will usher us back into Jim Crow or worse.

I told him Biden hasn't been a guardian of our rights either.

Given their vintage, I didn't expect great civil rights strides from Trump nor Biden. Trump's mention of migrant hate crime victim Jamiel Shaw, Jr during his first term and signing of the First Step Act for Gen X drug dealers serving lengthy federal prison sentences for poisoning my community is likely the best we'll get from today's GOP.

This exchange with my friend underscores misplaced urgency many Black people place upon Harris’s presidential candidacy, as they did with Obama.

My validity as an advocate for Black autonomy isn't contingent upon voting for her or any other liberal with a year 'round suntan hiding pale progressive philosophy.

The fact that a political consultant buddy who knows better (lol) tried to browbeat me into backing Kamala Harris for president indicates constant talk this election cycle about growing Black disenchantment with Democrats is about to be put to the test.

I welcome the challenge because being an colony of liberal ideology isn't my idea of liberation!

If we're not free to choose other options without being browbeaten or in worst case scenarios, insulted or threatened, then we're still not free as a people.
