Organized By: Beverly Perlson, Founder; The Band of Mothers Below is an After Action Report I received from Peter Karlovics, attorney for the Gurnee Memorial. Folks, please post this everywhere and PLEASE help us at one more Gurnee Village Board Meeting on February 15th (see below). Also, Kenny Lena with Best in Entertainment has come on board to help raise funds for the Memorial. He too is asking for our support. He is holding a benefit in Hammond, Indiana on February 27th "American Veterans Helping Veterans" bestinentertainment.net/ Appearing there will be Kevin Bacon of "Taking Chance" and Frank Stallone (Sly's brother). Please attend this benefit, it should be a great time and you will be helping our Veterans. Kenny has big plans to raise funds for the Gurnee Memorial so please, let's help him out and take your family and head to Hammond, Indiana on the 27th. You know, many of you have stood with us in Gurnee, Illinois in support of this Memorial and I can't say thank you enough. I know Gurnee is a long way for many but hey, Iraq and Afghanistan is a long way too and 6 Brave Heroes made that trip and never came home, for you and I and all Americans so that we stay safe in our little communities of America. Make this trip to Gurnee on February 15th, do it as a show of appreciation and respect to their families they left behind. After Action Below. About 8 protesters showed up with picket signs about a half hour before the Village Board meeting. We have been struggling to get some good press, and these protesters made all the difference. Their pictures were taken, and they were interviewed. Their appearance more than made up for the fact that we had a low turnout of about 30 people inside village hall. But their protest caught the newspaper's eye, and the reporters overlooked the poor turnout. Joe Cantafio asked the Village Board how to get a permit to picket, and his question was met with stunned silence. They did not know what to do. The protest went so well, that 2 newspapers have stories about the event, and the Chicago Tribune picked up the story, which has not yet been published. Here are links to the stories: dailyherald.com suburbanchicagonews.com We need one last massive rally... to support Iraq/Afghanistan veterans who have not yet spoke out, but will be speaking out on the issue of the memorial on February 15, 2010 at 7pm. This is our last rally before we go to picketing. Can we fill Village Hall like we did before? One last time.. come to Gurnee to hear Iraq/Afghanistan veterans talk about how they feel about this controversy. Let's give them the support they deserve.
