A Thought for Today

Enough about the so called Afghan detainees!! I’m so tired of reading about Canada’s non-stop hand wringing over a handful of enemy combatants in a foreign country. Especially when it all comes wrapped in that oh-so special Canadian moral superiority. Every Canadian can now say that they were made a victim by what those rotten soldiers did to those poor Afghan fighters who just hours ago were trying to kill them.

What’s going on in Afghanistan is WAR! You know, where people get killed on purpose. And in a war I trust the good guys [yes, I believe the US and the coalition of the willing are the good guys]. The Canadian troops, the professional military who volunteer to stand up to evil with their very lives. I trust that they will deal with their situation on the ground with dignity and in a manner that fits the situation. I don’t trust any so-called whistle blower who criticizes the military for what someone else may do to captured prisoners. I especially don’t trust the weak kneed politicians and journalists who spend hours writing and arguing about intellectual nonsense. Can Canada feel better if they can be Johnny–come–lately Americans and say that they don’t sanction torture? This dust-up has nothing to do with torture and everything to do with petty politics. Let’s show that those wicked conservatives tortured those poor helpless Afghan soldiers! C’mon Canada, stand up and really support the troops by supporting the Prime Minister who is standing with our military as he and all Canadians should. Ted McLean
