About Hillary's assurance that she doesn't want to take your guns away

Maybe it's silly to parse Hillary's words about anything. The simplest way to analyze anything she says - and probably the most accurate - is to simply assume she's lying. But you know she's surrounded by political strategists who obsess over every word they're going to put in her mouth. And they do this because they know what she's really going to do if she's elected, and they want to be able to come back later and plausibly claim she didn't lie. So when she promised in her DNC speech that she wasn't going to try to take your guns away, look how she worded that promise:

And if we're serious about keeping our country safe, we also can't afford to have a President who's in the pocket of the gun lobby. I'm not here to repeal the 2nd Amendment. I'm not here to take away your guns. I just don't want you to be shot by someone who shouldn't have a gun in the first place. We should be working with responsible gun owners to pass common-sense reforms and keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and all others who would do us harm.

Well this sounds wonderfully responsible, does it not? Hey! You! It's OK for you to have a gun. Just not people who shouldn't have guns, like criminals, terrorists and all others who would do us harm. So who are they?

Criminals? I'd love to know how Hillary defines a criminal. As far as most of us are concerned, she's a criminal. As far as she's concerned, Citizens United are a bunch of criminals for making a movie that criticized her. Terrorists? Who are they? To most of us, terrrorists mainly consist of radical Islamists. But not to Hillary, at least not that she will ever say. She thinks you should be prevented from having a gun if you are on the Terrorist Watch List. And who can be put on this list? Anyone the government wants. What due process is available to you if you're put on this list? None. So what course of action is available to you if Hillary decides you shouldn't be allowed to exercise a constitutional right, and is determined to find a justification for making sure you don't? None. And I love this one: All others who would do us harm. Who the hell does that consist of? We've already covered criminals and terrorists? Who else is out there threatening to do us harm? Republicans? Christians? Radio talk show hosts? The only conceivable answer is: Anyone Hillary says. Let's say Democrats succeed at passing what they call "common sense gun laws" and that includes expanded background checks. You already have to pass a background check to legally buy a gun, so what would the expansion consist of? No one is really sure, but what we can reasonably extrapolate is that the expansion would provide Democrats with new pretexts for denying you the right to buy a gun if you're just not the kind of person they want having one. Like I said at the beginning, Hillary is a liar, but in this case even if she's telling the truth, she's leaving us lots of clues about how she'll take away our Second Amendment rights while claiming she never promised anything to the contrary. This is exactly why you don't give this woman the sort of power that's inherent to the presidency.
