Howdy, from White Oak population of 6,225 friendly folks, 2,067 households, and 1,823 families located in East Texas.

There has been much Hullabaloo over Jason Aldean’s new country song Try That in a Small Town.” The glamour has reached the point were even the CMT association has taken opposition to the song.

Today I opened Judi McLeod’s column in Canada Free Press, Christ Church In Idaho An Answer To The Prayers of Persecuted Christians in ’Small Town North America.

The two are complimentary of each. Aldean’s song tells the story and Judi’s story offers some of the truth.

My personal comment is, I was raised on a farm, attended school in a small community of 400 people, and grew up near and then lived for 40 years in a “small town” of 5,000 people. Aldean’s lyrics make perfect sense to me.

In this electrical charger “hate somebody"-driven atmosphere we are living in, our beliefs and values that made our country Ronald Reagan's “Shining City on a Hill” been swept under the rug and placed out of sight. In my time as an adolescent I was taught, we are God-fearing Americans above all. In an American History class, we learned about all of our country’s history–both good and bad. Although it was not commonly identified, we were raised as the Bible directs in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

We then went into the World and followed those teachings and beliefs in an effort to provide a safe and enjoyable place to raise our children and advance our personal lives along respected, honest lines. The words “Republican” and “Democrat” were used only to identify a difference in thinking, not to fan a constant fire or hatred.

With the daily breakdown, we are seeing in our country those of us raised and still living in small towns can easily identify with Aldean’s song-story that he tells. We still believe there is right and wrong plus serious consequences for stepping across the line to the wrong side. We still believe there are differences in races but that should not be used to drive wedges, fan hatred and enslave groups to obtain a block of votes. We still believe a secure border is vital to a secure country. People should feel welcome to come to America, however, they must expect to be vetted, take classes to learn about us, learn to speak English, and then raise their right hand and swear to honor and protect America against enemies both foreign and from within.

Aldean has it right. Break the law in a small town and be prepared to pay for it in an appropriate manner.

Please take the time to read the lyrics to Try That In A Small Townand the column Christ Church In Idaho An Answer To The Prayers of Persecuted Christians in ’Small Town North America.”

Be an American first and above all. Then you can figure out if you want to be a Republican or a Democrat who respects the other’s idea, is willing to discuss those differences in a civil manner and part friends, or at least respect each other, at the discussion's end.

Just an old country boy who believes in the sanctity of all citizens in our many, many small towns across America.

Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk
Carjack an old lady at a red light
Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store
Ya think it's cool, well, act a fool if ya like
Cuss out a cop, spit in his face
Stomp on the flag and light it up
Yeah, ya think you're tough

Well, try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
'Round here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town

Got a gun that my granddad gave me
They say one day they're gonna round up
Well, that # might fly in the city, good luck

Try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
'Round here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town

Full of good ol' boys, raised up right
If you're looking for a fight

Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town

Try that in a small town
(See how far ya make it down the road)
'Round here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town, mm-mm

Try that in a small town
