ChristiaNet.com, the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, recently asked, "Should all abortions be illegal?" President of ChristiaNet, Bill Cooper, stated, "The life that only God is able to give begins with conception."

Out of 2,300 Christians surveyed, 59% believed that all abortions in the United States should be illegal. Reasons included the citation of the commandment, "Thou shalt not kill" from the Bible. Most in this group equated abortion with murder and murder is illegal. Others agreed that only God can provide the gift of life and only He has the right to terminate it, "God is the giver of life and the taker." The primary comment from survey takers in this category was that life begins at conception, "No matter if the baby is deformed or the reason it was conceived, once it has been conceived it is a life and nobody has the right to deny that life for any reason." Thirty three percent of those surveyed did not feel that abortions should be illegal in all cases. They brought up points such as "What if the baby was conceived out of rape or incest and what if it is deformed, shouldn't the mother have a choice", and "If the pregnancy endangers the mother's life, then it should be aborted." Many others felt that in certain cases the baby should have a right to live, but that it was up to the mother and her motivations, "I don't believe in abortion if it is to be used as a method of birth control." Only eight percent of Christians were unsure about whether or not the government should interfere with the choices concerning abortion. This was evident in comments such as, "I don't want my personal opinions to influence somebody else's situation legally", and "The choice should be between the mother and God." Others who were unsure stated that only in the case of severe medical problems should the abortion be legal, "If there is a valid medical reason to abort the baby, then the mother should be allowed that choice." To help educate Christians, ChristiaNet has just released a series of abortion articles. These articles are designed to assist Christians in their quest for concise, easy-to-understand information.
