Drivers' licenses to illegal aliens, co-opting the democratic process

American states are giving away the store

When politically correct, radical left-lib politicians take it into their minds that their agendas need to be advanced, there's precious little that ordinary people can do about it. Currently, Elliot Spitzer, the Democrat governor of New York is pursuing a plan to issue drivers' licenses to illegal aliens, despite over 70% of New Yorkers being opposed to the scheme. What's so amazing about Spitzer's intentions is that the state would be in direct contravention of Federal laws and that this could lead to massive voter fraud, as there is also a law in the works that would ban poll workers from demanding proof of citizenship during elections.

The rationale that Spitzer and his supporters are offering is thin, to say the least. Giving illegal aliens driver's licenses will help take them "out of the shadows" and presumably bring them into the light. Illegals with legal driver's licenses will also purchase insurance, or so Spitzer is attempting to convince New Yorkers. A good way for an illegal immigrant to come "out of the shadows" is to do whatever is necessary to attain landed immigrant status. As for purchasing automobile insurance, New York State happens to be among the most expensive states to insure one's car. I can't see someone who is working in the U.S. illegally at what is presumably a sub-standard wage, going through the added expense of insuring a vehicle to comply with New York state law. Bizarrely, New York isn't the only state in the union that's assisting illegal immigrants in obtaining what amounts to illegal documentation. Both North Carolina and Tennessee were until recently havens for undocumented aliens seeking some form of legitimate identification. In fact two of the 9/11 hijackers managed to get North Carolina drivers licenses, as they were illegally in the U.S. Currently, there are seven other states (14% of all the states!) that issue driver's licenses to illegal aliens. These are Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington. What's so interesting is that of these seven states, all but two, Hawaii and Utah, have Democrat governors, and all of these states except for Utah have Democrat controlled state senates and legislatures. Likewise for the State of New York, which is practically owned and operated by a powerful Democrat machine, which with the help of the public service unions, runs the state as if the voters didn't exist. Aside from the obvious issue of encouraging more undocumented aliens to enter the U.S., there are two other issues that really should be of grave concern to all Americans. The first is the issue of terrorists being able to attain bona fides that may assist them in their quest to damage the country. If Democratic legislatures are handing out free IDs to illegals, then obviously they either do not believe that a terrorist threat exists, which given the 9/11 incident is difficult to rationalize. Or, worse, they either don't care, or are themselves working toward the destruction of the U.S. The second issue is equally unnerving in that passing out IDs to illegals could and probably will result in massive election frauds. Given that the Democrats are constantly complaining that election fraud is causing them to lose elections, it's entirely possible that the motivation in handing out bona fides to undocumented residents is an attempt on their part to level the so-called playing field. In other words, if they sincerely believe that Republicans are cheating during elections, then handing out IDs to foreign nationals might be a way to garner more votes and even the score. Given that the vast majority of Hispanics in the U.S. tend to vote Democrat and given that conservative estimates place the number of illegal Mexicans at somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 million, then the idea that democratic legislatures are enabling illegal immigrants to commit election fraud makes even more sense. While federal politicians have been attempting to pass an immigration reform bill that is loudly opposed by the vast majority of Americans because it amounts to amnesty for those who are already in the country, state legislatures run mostly by Democrats are quietly co-opting the democratic process through a form of de facto legalization that flies in the face of all that's right and fair.
