In these days of mayhem over the Obama/Reid/Pelosi ‘stimulus,’ ‘anti-stimulus,’ ‘federal bankruptcy,’ ‘U.S. in the poor house’ (choose one carefully, it may be your last chance to survive), it has made me take notice that this new bunch that is running, or attempting to ruin, our wonderful country that once was, how many things that make me so very nervous that we will never again be the strong, commanding force that we so very much prided in our being.
I quickly named off a few things that I think is killing any thing that is remotely American in the following order: No. 1 is a man named Barack Hussein Obama, President of what used to be the United States; No. 2 is another man named Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader of our Congress; and No. 3 is a woman named Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives of our Congress.
As if those three names weren’t scary enough, other thoughts surfaced as to what those three vandals of destruction of our country have said they would do to bring about the downfall of this country, although couched in flowery rhetoric proclaiming change! The only change seems to be the attempts to fill our leadership roles in government with tax-cheats at the very minimum and just plain bad for our country’s image to the world in addition. Their leader anoints them and the other two fall prone in adoration while tending to his wishes; the country be damned.
We all complained, yes, I did too, that the former President and his administration were out of character by going on a spending binge that was unparalleled for his political party. Of course it took less than one month for the new President and his Administration to make the other look like Ebenezer Scrooge clones.
Where the first got into the bailout business with a gusto very unlike what Republicans are normally associated with, this second group is blowing them away with their inaccurately called ‘stimulus’ proposals. Why is it that the Democrats have to name things incorrectly when they propose expenditures of our tax dollars? Is it to fool their gullible and ‘anything goes’ followers, or are they trying to fool ALL of us?
To call a pork-laden giveaway bill with miniscule of phantom job creation a ‘stimulus’ proposal shows that either they are dumber than we thought or they thought that we were dumber than we really are. I would explain that to you, but I think you get the drift.
But after just getting through that mess along comes more subterfuge with one of their plans to repay the labor unions for the many, many millions of dollars of union members’ dues money that were donated not only to those first three names that appear in paragraph 2 above, but to just about every candidate that had a “D” after his or her name.
This bit of trickery or deceit comes in the form of the name for a piece of unethical and overwhelmingly anti-American legislation almost laughingly (if not so sad in its intent) called the “Employee Free Choice Act” or EFCA which is anything but.
This little jewel of chicanery strips away an employee’s God-given, All-American right to privacy when casting a vote, be it for the President of these United States or for selecting freely, one’s choice of membership in a job related group of people looking out for their own betterment.
This new managing group, often called Liberal Mismanaging Democrats, have yet another horribly misnamed piece of legislation proposed that will violate the First Amendment to the Constitution provision for the right to free speech. It is also humorously titled the “Freedom Doctrine”. Freedom from the right to free speech should be called the Cancellation Document, as that is what it is designed to do.
It would absolutely violate another right, as the EFCA does, by silencing anyone who speaks out against that triumvirate of so-called leaders in paragraph 2 above.
As an example: This column would probably not be allowed to be published if that dictatorial edict, again, misnamed “Freedom Doctrine” were to be enacted into law with the President’s concurring signature of approval.
What are we breeding here America? Where are our liberties going? Which will be the next one or ones to go? Will our choices of religion be removed and replaced with a strange and foreign creed that fosters murdering people just because they believe differently? Will we be able to dress as we do now, or will women have to wear clothing so as to show nothing but a sad face?
I said in a column before the election that people should be careful about what they choose as they might get their wish. That bit of common sense was ignored and to use a lately overworked expression: The chickens are coming home to roost.
My next column will summarize the many things that are unsavory and unappealing to the political appetites of good family value and freedom loving individuals that this new government will try to foist on us if they can keep all of their minions in line and keep us voices of dissent quiet. But I’ll have to hurry before they get their legislative chainsaws revved up to cut away my abilities to do so.
Gerald A. “Jerry” McConnell, 92, of Hampton, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass., surrounded by his loved ones. He was born May 27, 1924 in Altoona, Pa., the fifth son of the late John E. and Grace (Fletcher) McConnell.
Jerry served ten years with the US Marine Corps and participated in the landing against Japanese Army on Guadalcanal and another ten years with the US Air Force. After moving to Hampton in 1957 he started his community activities serving in many capacities.
He shared 72 years of marriage with his wife Betty P. (Hamilton) McConnell. In addition to his wife, family members include nieces and nephews.
