Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen officially declared a Blessed

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was proclaimed a Blessed on Thursday at a Mass attended by about 50,000 people from 12 countries and 48 states at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis. Among those gathered for the beatification were 1,000 priests, 800 seminarians, 200 permanent deacons, 90 bishops and four cardinals.

Bishop Louis Tylka of Sheen’s home Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, read the formal decree that Cardinal Luis Tagle, pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, had just pronounced in Latin.
