Art news: Wedding inspires artist

Louise Brooks

An artist's wedding has fuelled a new direction in her work.

Louise Brooks from Sussex, UK married John Heal after they met through Match.com, the dating agency. Neither of them ever imagined they would meet their soulmate when they joined or that they would have such a fairytale wedding. Little did Louise imagine that her use of Swarovski crystals for table decorations on her wedding day would inspire such a change in her paintings. So much so that for the past two years she has actually been incorporating these crystals together with semi-precious gemstones in her artwork.

“The table decorations created amazing and mesmerizing lighting effects,” recalls Louise. “After studying the meaning of crystals I learnt that Swarovski crystals are uplifting to the spirit. This also led to the discovery of semi-precious gemstones and their meanings with potential for healing and rebalancing. I wanted to add this to my work because I am intrigued by the thought that my work can bring positive energy into the home of the people who own my work. Each one of my seascape paintings literally dances with light, shimmering and sparkling with the added radiance of Swarovski crystals and semi precious gemstones,” says Louise from Saltdean. “It is my burning desire to catch the essential quality of light that dances on the horizon creating a myriad of colours beneath the sea’s surface and hot and vibrant hues in the sky.” Louise has always been interested in the way light transforms images. In her early career as a professional photographer she was well known for pushing the boundaries with new and unusual lighting techniques. “I used light boxes and light wands in the studio to create stunning photographs.” She has brought this passion for light and the way it can be used to her art. “Nowadays it is the essential quality of light that dances on the horizon as the sun rises and sets that capture my imagination and I am on a constant quest to immortalise this light on canvas,” says Louise who continues to explore different ways of scattering and diffusing light. Every one of Louise’s paintings comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Louise’s work can be seen at Art 5 Gallery, 5 Bartholomews, Brighton, BN1 1HG. Commissions welcome. Contact: www.louisebrooks.co.uk Web: www.louisebrooks.co.uk
