Marvel Studios actor Sebastian Stan is standing up for conservatives while promoting his new film about a traditional Christian family.
Now in theaters, Fjord tells the story of a Romanian-Norwegian Pentecostal family that moves to a coastal village and endures suspicions “about the family’s strict religious upbringing” when their daughter shows up to school with bruises in a story that “explores clashing worldviews, conformity, tolerance and the boundaries of freedom and intimacy,” according to its official synopsis.
The story is loosely based on Norwegian couple Ruth and Marius Bodnariu’s ultimately successful real-life battle to keep their children in 2015.
Written and directed by Cristian Mungiu, the film’s premiere won an almost 10-minute standing ovation as well as the prestigious Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival. It currently enjoys a 91% Tomatometer score out of 115 critic reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.
The film stars Stan, best known for his role as Bucky Barnes AKA the Winter Soldier in the Captain America and Avengers films, as Mihai Gheorghiu, the family’s father. Fox News reported that the film’s potential political overtones have become a discussion point in promotional interviews. ---More...
