Con men are more brazen


Alas, they don't appear at the door with a handlebar mustache and shifty eyes. But the con artist does come knocking, via door, phone and e-mail.

News sources, government departments, and national organizations are warning people that scams are on the rise. The economic climate has people more vulnerable and the con men more brazen. In March, the Federal Trade Commission exposed a new scam, this one claiming to help individual consumers qualify for an economic stimulus package funds. This bit of flimflam comes by way of computer or mail packaged with the likeness of the president or vice president, or a national press logo on it.
