Canadian Taxpayers Federation to Respond to Ontario Economic Update

Balanced Budget Strategy Required - Freeze Public Sector Wages

TORONTO: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) Federal Director, Kevin Gaudet, will be available for comment in advance of and after the release of the 2009 Ontario Economic Update. The update will be released by Finance Minister Duncan at approximately 1:15 p.m. (EST) at Queen’s Park in Toronto, on Thursday, October 22nd, 2009.

Note: News organizations are strongly encouraged to book advance interviews for pre- or post-budget commentary by calling 1-877-267-3218 or 416-203-0030. The Ontario government has signaled it will be running a deficit in excess of $20 billion – the largest in the history of Ontario. The CTF has long called for government to restrain spending to avoid just this type of problem. The CTF is calling for Premier McGuinty to establish a clear plan and timeline to balance Ontario’s budget, including leadership by example with pay cuts for himself and Cabinet as well as freezing all public sector wages.
