Ban Ki-moon: Durban pact ‘defied’ skeptics

Actually, he only defied himself at Durban.
Greenwire reports,
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon sounded a defiant note today in his last press conference of the year, telling reporters that negotiators in Durban, South Africa, were victorious over climate change skeptics. In his opening remarks here, Ban praised the Durban Platform as a success that he believes demonstrates the legitimacy of the United Nations. He also took on criticism of the climate talks directly, much of it based in the United States and the U.S. Senate. “At Durban, we defied the skeptics,” he said. “There is a broader lesson: The United Nations has never been so needed”…

But Durban only resulted in an agreement to work toward an agreement that would take effect in 2020. But in 2009, Ban Ki-moon said,
We have just four months. Four months to secure the future of our planet.
