Jones, my TVBFF, was kind enough to alert me about the passing of Major Richard D. Winters.
The HBO miniseries, “Band of Brothers“, based on the book of the same name by author Stephen Ambrose, followed the heroic exploits of Major Winters and the members of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborn Division during the Second World War.
I’ve watched “Band of Brothers – start to finish – at least a dozen times. I’ve also read Ambrose’s “Band of Brothers”, Winters’ 2006 memoir, “Beyond Band of Brothers”, and additional books on the men of 101st Airborn. The constants in all of these books are heroism, sacrifice, and the guidance of Major Winters..
