Bill Clinton buys $8,000 worth of high-end watches so he can 'just give 'em away'

The Clintons are just like you. That's the desperate spin being offered on the heels of Hillary's disastrous campaign launch book tour. Their legal defense fund is just like yours, their global initiative is just like yours, their 100 million dollars in speaking fees is just like yours, their lifelong federal pensions are just like yours and the multi-million dollar book deals are just like yours. They're not "truly well off" because they pay the taxes they try to dodge, they don't care about money, and they even talk to their neighbors and go to the grocery store - just like you do.
That's the message they're trying to get across but, unfortunately, they just can't seem to resist shooting themselves in the foot. The case in point is the following clip, which was shot one day after Bill insisted that his family was not "out of touch" despite Hillary's laughable claim that they were "dead broke" when they left office.  In it, Bill is delightful as he discusses spending over $8,000.00 on 14 high-end watches. He uses these as gifts that he apparently throws out like beads at the Mardi Gras parade.

The watch company in question is Shinola.  They're a trendy, high quality, Detroit-based brand that set up shop in the revitalized Midtown section of the city a few years ago. Their watches start at $550 and top out around $1,000. So, they're not the most expensive watches on the planet, but they're not cheap either. If we give Bill the benefit of the doubt and assume he was purchasing the $550 model - the 41mm Runwell - that means he dropped $7,700.00. However, Michigan has a 6% sales tax, so pushes the number up to $8162.00 - all spent on freebies for his pals.  As always, no one is begrudging them their wealth.  Sure, it exists only because they've enjoyed a lifetime taxpayer largesse, but hey.  They got elected.  If people were dumb enough to vote for them, they've technically "earned" their salaries. They have every right to charge as much as they like for their speeches and books. If they can get millions, more power to 'em. However, the game they're playing, where they pretend they're just an ordinary middle-American family, is utterly laughable. Either that or I'm the one who's out of touch - and everyone is spending a whole lot more on watches than I am.
