Libyan dictator, Col. Muammar Gaddafi's bizarre tirade

Blood in the water

In his first speech to the United Nations General Assembly Libyan dictator, Col. Muammar Gaddafi called for the UN to be relocated somewhere in the eastern hemisphere. Using the rationale that for the past 64 years the UN has been headquartered in New York, the heart of the Great Satan, Gaddafi insisted that it’s time to move. But that was only the beginning of his bizarre tirade.

Gaddafi also called for all members of the UN Security Council, not just the permanent members, to have veto powers. “All Security Council members should be on an equal footing,” the Colonel intoned through a stilted interpreter. And then he proceeded to point out all the evils that the West (i.e. the United States) had perpetrated on the world. He began with the Korean War (which was a UN-sanctioned action as a result of a massive invasion by North Korean troops) and worked his way through all the various wars in which the world was wronged. He mentioned the Suez Canal crisis of 1956 and questioned by what right England, France and Israel could launch attacks against a sovereign Arab nation, like Egypt. (Maybe it had something to do with Nasser’s nationalization of the Canal, you think?) He mentioned America’s invasion of Panama and called for the release of Manuel Noriega, the drug-dealing Panamanian strongman who has just been extradited to France. He then talked about wars in Vietnam, Somalia, Libya and the “mother of all evils”, the invasion of Iraq, where he claims that more than 1.5 million Iraqis were killed. (Even the most left wing organizations put the death toll at no more than 600,000) The point of the tirade was to show that the United States had become largely irrelevant and that the UN really should move to a place more in keeping with where the world seems to be headed. One wonders how much of Gaddafi’s musings have to do with America having a president who can’t apologize often enough for all the wrongs that the nation has supposedly committed against a hapless global populace. I recall a very frightened Muammar Gaddafi relinquishing his own weapons of mass destruction in the face of George W. Bush’s resolute action against the genocidal Saddam Hussein. Now that the White House is occupied by a wimp whose claim to fame is the single-handed killing of a fly, Gaddafi is singing from a different hymnal. His call for a return to square one is directly related to President Obama’s dim view of his own country. In point of fact, a lot of what Gaddafi said made sense. There’s no reason why all member nations of the UN can’t be on an “equal footing”, starting with how much they pony up in membership dues. It’s time the US decreased the amount it pays and all other nations increased the amount they pay to equalize the cost of membership. And it makes perfect sense to tear down the monstrosity on Manhattan’s Turtle Bay and turn it into condos or a used car lot, as that would yield a greater benefit. I think there’s some prime real estate in Burkina Faso that would make an ideal location for the New UN. What we’re now witnessing is recognition by the rest of the world that America’s days have come and gone, as has been decreed by Barack Obama. What with the cancellation of the Eastern European missile defense shield, the reluctance to stand up to the whack jobs running Iran, the kow-towing to Vladimir Putin, the incessant apologies for whatever perceived wrong America may have committed, the squishiness in Afghanistan and the efforts to socialize the American economy, the sharks are smelling the blood in the water and are circling for the kill. But then it makes perfect sense, given that the President of the United States is so out of step with mainstream America.
